    Breadbar, LA-
WHY: Because the cultish French-inspired bakery-resto is taking food truckery to the next level.
WHAT: In Breadbar’s “Hatchi” invitational, different chefs do eight dishes for eight bucks each (“Hatchi” is Japanese for, yes, eight)â€"one per month, all year. The first one, on March 31, features Grill ‘em All, winners of the Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race offering musclebound dishes such as Molson Beer and Cheese Soup with Frisée, Lardons, and Bacon Vinaigrette, or Peanut Butter and Jelly Three Waysâ€"Canapé, Ravioli, and Shot. This goes way further than sandwiches.

We're in love with bread. Baguette, sourdough boule, bagel, it's all good. Whether in the hands of artisanal bakers, food truck operators, scrappy chefs or top toques, we live for the stuff, and, even more so, for the sandwich. So herewith: our highly unscientific round-up of the latest must-eats in bakery world USA.

You can substitute an equal amount of fresh blueberries for the blackberries; be sure to rinse and dry them thoroughly before scattering over the batter.

Yellow cornmeal produces a dessert that has a rich, golden color, but you could use white cornmeal instead.
