Everyone grew up eating what was in the famous blue box and the people at Kraft have recently come out with a new variety of mac and cheese that is sure to be a hit at the grocery stores. The company has taken cues from the nation in the way of healthy eating and have added cauliflower purée to their new variety of mac and cheese. The new pasta is called Veggie Pasta and comes in two different flavors: Original and Three Cheese which is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters. The cauliflower doesn't come in the form of that weird cheese powder, rather it's baked into the pasta which makes it impossible to even taste it. The fact that you can now get some of your vegetables in a noodle from one of the largest food manufacturers is quite something in terms of the health craze sweeping the nation recently, however would this new pasta be able to live up to the blue box expectation?
The answer is yes, because you can't tell the difference between this variety of pasta and their original. The noodles still cook the same way as the old ones do and don't take much longer or shorter to cook. The cheese powder still reacts the same way and you still end up with a creamy concoction of mac and cheese, which for some people is the only way to make it while others think it's some odd science experiment and prefer to make their own. The amount of cauliflower per serving is only 1/4 cup of cauliflower and in the scheme of things isn't that much compared to how much your supposed to be eating, however it's still more than you would be eating anyways. The calories and fat still remain the same as the original depending on how you make it, but the fiber content has risen by 2 grams per serving which could mean something for some of you. The bottom line is that the flavor and texture are still the same for this mac and cheese, so if you're able to find it at your grocery store we recommend you give it a try. Overall (4 out of 5).
The pros are that it still has the same creamy cheese texture, and it has the added vegetables.
The cons are that it's hard to find right now, it's got a lot of odd chemicals in it, and it's still pretty high in calories in sodium.
