The No Shampoo Method

In Hair News:
I know this may sound crazy, but there is a movement where people are giving up shampooing their hair. Okay take it all in, after getting over the initial ew gross factor I found myself intrigued. Apparently people are giving up shampoo for many reasons, some key ones being the harsh detergents and carcinogens reportedly found in shampoos, trying to use less plastic, not to mention the cost. I have tagged articles on NPR and the Budget Fashionista reporting this new phenom. Also have you seen that informercial for Wen hair products by Chaz Dean, who seems to be touting the same philosophy (while hawking expensive hair products). The people who have tried it report that after 4-6 weeks of kinda greasy hair, there is a turnaround and their hair suddenly becomes more silky and lustrous than ever. In the articles alternatives to shampoo are mentioned, baking soda or vinegar even lemon juice are sometimes used as rinses to keep hair smelling fresh. Dermatologists recommend shampooing no more than 2-3 times a week, to avoid drying out the scalp. What do you think? Would you or have you gone no shampoo?
