    Strawberry Shortcake Done 5 Ways

Strawberry shortcake is one of my favorite summer desserts. I make it several times a month throughout the summer, but it can get a bit old after a while. Thankfully, there are others ways to enjoy the delicious flavors in new ways. Whether you're looking for a new Sunday brunch option or a beautiful trifle, you will love these suggestions. Here is strawberry shortcake done five ways.

    Pancakes

One of my favorite breakfast options in the summer is strawberry shortcake pancakes. This recipe is so quick and easy to make all you need to do cover your pancakes in sliced strawberries, top with whipped cream and drizzle with strawberry syrup. If you want this to be even easier, use microwave pancakes. This is something that kids and adults will love.

    Cupcakes

Another fun way to use the flavors of strawberry shortcake is to make cupcakes. This is another simple to make treat. All you need to do is slice white or yellow cupcakes in half, top the bottom half with sliced strawberries that have been mixed with strawberry glaze, place on the other half of the cupcakes and frost with whipped vanilla or cream cheese frosting.

    Ice Cream

If you love to make homemade ice cream, you will love this idea. Strawberry shortcake ice cream starts with a vanilla based ice cream. Before the ice cream mixer stops, add cubed pound cake and sliced strawberries. As you pour the ice cream into a container to freeze, add strawberry ice cream topping so that you get a nice swirl. If you don't want to use pound cake, you could use coarsely chopped shortbread cookies.

    Bread

I love making sweet bread and I thought why not use the flavors of strawberry shortcake. You start with a basic sweet bread recipe (such as banana bread) and fold in chopped strawberries. Pour the batter into the loaf pan and swirl in cream cheese that has been softened and sweetened with powdered sugar. Bake as directed in your recipe and allow to cool before serving.

    Trifle

Last, but not least, you can make an excellent trifle using the flavors of strawberry shortcake. Start with a layer of sliced pound cake spread with strawberry jam. Add a layer of sliced strawberries, a layer of vanilla pudding and whipped cream. Repeat the layers two or three more times, depending on the size of your container, and end with whipped cream. Chill for at least two hours before serving.

Strawberry shortcake is an excellent dessert, but you can use the same flavors to create a number of delicious desserts.
