Stylist’s secrets to pulling off fall 2012 fashion trends

Stuck in a fashion rut? Now is a great time to give your wardrobe a style makeover and incorporate some of the latest runway trends into your look. We're seeing the return of colorblocking and floral prints this season but in darker color palettes and moody hues. Navy is the new neutral for fall 2012 and it's finally okay to wear it with black.

I interviewed fashion stylist Marianne Ilunga of Stylissima Fashion Consulting to find out what the hottest fall 2012 fashion trends are, and how to pull off those runway looks with style. Here's the scoop:

Most Wearable Fashion Trends for Fall 2012

Marianne says that leather leggings or leather jeans are among the season's most wearable trends. We saw these on the runway paired with oversized sweaters and chunky knits, and these can be a great match for your casual wardrobe. Menswear-inspired jackets and coats are another easy trend to incorporate into your look this season. The fitted jacket or coat can be worn with skirts, leggings, or even skinny jeans for a more structured and pulled-together look. Marianne also calls out the pointy-toe pump for fall. Take your pick of bold and bright hues or even a printed style this season.

Easy Ways to Incorporate Fall 2012 Fashion Trends

The basic sheath dress is a must-have for fall 2012 and can be one of your most versatile pieces of the season. Marianne suggests wearing the menswear-inspired jacket or coat with the sheath dress for a masculine/feminine look. She also recommends wearing a fur vest with your leather leggings or jeans this season. Update your work wardrobe by carrying a beaded or embellished structured bag during the day with a conservative suit.

Colored pants are a must-have for fall 2012 and you can wear these with several different tops for a completely different look. Marianne says to wear colored pants with a peplum top for date night. Keep it casual by wearing a leather biker jacket and simple tee or turtleneck with some bold-hued pants.

Accessorizing Like a Star for Fall 2012

Accessories can update any outfit in a flash, so make sure to pick up at least one or two trendy accessories this season. We saw plenty of luxe embellishment, beaded accents, and fur trim on the fall 2012 runways. Marianne's favorites: 'art deco' or vintage-inspired pieces of jewelry; a skinny belt in red, forest green, or cobalt blue; and a beaded or embellished handbag for daytime.
