    8 Great, New Deodorants

As the mercury rises, B.O. and sweat can become instant moment-killers. Check out this round-up of new underarm sprays and sticks to see which deodorant is best for you. For more new editor deodorant reviews, check out the winners of our 2011 Deodorant Challenge.

Dove Ultimate Go Sleeveless Anti-Perspirant Deodorant

The Claim: This moisturizing blend is packed with vitamins E and F and promises to soften skin in five days flat-meaning fewer bumps and prettier underarms.

The Truth: Our tester noticed that the texture of her skin looked less wrinkly after one week, but was inclined to reapply after working out, whether she needed to or not on account of the super-silky texture. "I think I just had it ingrained in my mind that my armpits had to feel desert-dry, which might be wrong," she added. "But I'd definitely recommend this to someone who's insecure about the appearance of her underarms because mine now have an airbrushed-quality to them."

    $4.79; drugstore.com

DermaDoctor Gorilla Warfare Hair Minimizing Anti-perspirant

The Claim: Packed with botanicals like saw palmetto and fireweed, which work to reduce hair growth, this anti-perspirant promises to cut down on you razor use while preventing ingrowns.

The Truth: "I definitely noticed a difference in hair texture," stated our self-proclaimed hairy tester. "It seemed like I had less hair, or at least less coarse hair, growing in after I shaved." When asked if she'd use it again, she said she'd definitely splurge on a bottle for the summer months.

    $29; dermadoctor.com

Degree Clinical Protection Deodorant and Anti-Perspirant with Motion Sense

The Claim: Made for serious sweaters, this heavy-duty deodorant uses prescription strength quantities of sweat-blockers to prevent wetness. The formula is also backed up with a proprietary blend of ingredients that are activated by friction, meaning the more you move, the harder the deodorant works.

The Truth: Our tester (who borrows her boyfriend's deodorant when she needs extra protection), loved the endurance of this stick. In fact, it was so effective that she said she would get an extra one to keep in her gym bag at all times.

    $8.56; amazon.com

    Clean Original Moisture-Absorbent Deodorant

The Claim: From the makers of the perfume line that popularized sweetly-simple smells, like fresh laundry, comes this aluminum-free deodorant that uses cotton-derived technology to wick away underarm moisture.

The Truth: First and foremost, our tester loved this T-shirt-inspired scent over other in-your-face floral fragrances on the market. As for efficacy, she said the deodorant (antiperspirants are deemed drugs by the FDA and involve more extensive testing), gave her more than enough coverage to confidently go from 9-to-5 without worrying about stains or smells.

    $18; amazon.com

    Weleda Wild Rose Deodorant

The Claim: This light blend of organic rose leaf extracts has detoxifying properties to neutralize sweaty smells. Plus, the non-aerosol spray is said to be gentle enough to use all over your bod.

The Truth: Like a more-mature take on the body sprays of our youth, this eco-friendly deodorant did keep our tester feeling fresh throughout her day. "If anything, I wished that it would have provided more sweat protection, but it was more important to me to use a totally organic formula," she added.

    $16; us.weleda.com

    Secret Natural Mineral Anti-Perspirant Deodorant

The Claim: Unlike other blends, this new deodorant relies on calcium carbonate (instead of extra aluminum) to do some of the heavy-lifting when it comes to stopping wetness.

The Truth: "Immediately, I liked that this came in an unscented version," said our tester." After using it, I was pleasantly surprised that the white residue disappeared on my skin and that it allowed me some of the benefits of using a natural product without sacrificing on sweat protection."

    $5.80; amazon.com

    Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant/Anti-Perspirant

The Claim: Infused with notes of suede, sandal wood, and patchouli, this cult fave perfume-turned-deodorant is triggered towards women who require more than just sweat- and odor-protection-they demand a signature scent, too.

The Truth: "I'd wear this to a fancy party or my wedding," said our tester. As the name implies, this formula went on smoothly and had a touch of glamour, thanks to the hints of amber and musk. While she loved the end result, she felt guilty about spending more than $10 on a deodorant, until she noticed that a little bit of this luxe stick goes a long way.

    $18; donnakaranbeauty.com

Tom's of Maine Natural 24 Hour Long Lasting Deodorant

The Claim: The eco-minded peeps at Tom's created this deodorant without aluminum (a controversial ingredient) and with the promise of day-long protection. They used hops to kill bacteria and prevent stinky smells and zinc salts to absorb any sneaky, lingering odors.

The Truth: Our tester loved the fresh, non-chemical scent of essential oils and the gel-like finish of this deodorant. But, less of a criticism and more of a fact, she found that while she didn't emit any funky B.O., she still sweated since this is not an anti-perspirant.

    $3.99; walgreens.com

I agree with smm. Tom's of Maine does not work..even fro BO. I have used it for more than a month a couple of times. I usually love Toms of Maine products...esp. the toothpaste. And I am partial to them because of the name and that I am originally from New England.

I don't believe that aluminum will cause cancer. However, it does cause a chemical reaction in some people that can lead to very smelly stains on clothing. Sort of the opposite of what's supposed to happen. Not everyone can use anti-perspirants unfortunately.

Used to be anything worked for me until menopause changed my body chemistry...now it's gotta be Degree Clinical, or Secret Clinical...both good!

I prefer Aubrey without aluminum and my favorite store is out of it. Tried Tom's. Useless; so I tried
Mitchum. Had to stop. I have a rash. Maybe I can buy my Aubrey's on line.

Some cultures are not so quick to jump on modern conveniences. When you block certain bodily functions that were put in place to filter or alter any other body function has to be a long term consequence and probably is the reason for the unpleasantries in the first place, in addition, diet (red meat). So shower as needed and sprinkle on a little baking soda you Just may be better off. Don't believe the hype!

I have used Crystal for years -- a solid mineral 'roller-ball' that is made of natural mineral salts. It is excellent for odor and very good for perspiration, and because it's unscented and doesn't use aluminum or zinc, it doesn't cause me to have an allergic reaction on my armpits. I've also used their Crystal Essence, a mineral salts liquid w/ a regular roller ball, which has a very light lavendar/white tea scent that has not caused any allergic reaction for me. Every other "drug store" brand, even unscented, causes me to itch under the arms within just a few uses.

Dove is terrible for the summer. I loved it in the cool winter when I wasn't sweating but as soon as it got hot all I smelled was my B.O. Secret Clinical Strength is amazing! I work over fryers and grills all day long and it stays strong for 8 hours.

my husband uses the thai crystal rock deoderant. sweat is naturally oderless, the bacteria found in the armpits makes you have b.o. the salt kills the bacteria, so you dont stink. you still sweat, which your supposed to, it just does not emit b.o.

I just use coconut oil, which sounds weird and totally counter-intuitive but is surprisingly effective. And I live in New Mexico with 105 degree days in the summer. I don't know why it works but it does.

What was that deoderant called that looked like a big rock? Never tried it but I thought it was weird. supposed to be all natural or something.

I was excited to try toms out and for the first few days it worked. Then after a week i started to develop a rash and the body odor was embarrassing. Then i tried an arm& hammer deo claiming the same thing that it was natural but it still gave me a rash so i switched back to my Dove deo and rash dissapeared and no bo any more :[

Ladies-Most deodrants with zinc and aluminum cause or lead to breast cancer cells and lymph cancer cells. I just met with a top breast cancer specialist who advises we only use organic, non zinc-non aluminum deodorants. I use a clear organic aluminum-zinc free and it works fine. You have to give up these major brands, they are deadly for women.
