I wish everyone would STOP trying to make a burger something it is not! the best burger is a simple burger! Preferably cooked on the grill using wood! When I make burgers for company, most folks dont want liquid condiments, maybe just a pickle or some onion. Thats it! Try it, you'll like it.

The art of a good burger is to cook it slowly and turn often, put a slight slit in both sides as you turn it. Garlic powder, turmeric, organo, black pepper all powders on both sides. Do not overcook. Enjoy. If you cook any burger fast it will be tough. I only use ground turkey for my burgers. I make them big and fat. So good.

Lol anyone can make a burger. I only use ground turkey for my burgers grilled or over the stove. I season it with spices and top it off with turkey bacon and a slice of cheddar chesse ALL DONE AND SIMPLY DELICIOUS:)

I love burgers cooked on the grill. 80% lean is the best flavor and texture. I agree with some of the posters...we all know what we like.
But in defense of the article I know people who are in their 70's that have NEVER grilled out in their life. So for those people who might be intimidated this was a good article.

Tired of plain burgers, well take a italian hot sausage , shed the skin off and blend into the hamburg . you can add onions or green peppers., but try one with just the hamburg and sausage blend first. Or for those who like it sweet , sweet sausage mix with hamburg,. Myself i would take the hot sausage and hamburg for a zingy and tastey mix.Just grill as you normally would...yummmm.
here is another one for you...
flatten a steak with a rolling pin , slice potatoes , onions, carrots or corn and fold under then glaze with fav sauce and grill..when done the slice will have meat, potatoe and veg and kids will love it....good way to get them to eat vegs. Try with what ever your fav vegs are..enjoy..

This Jonathan Waxman can just waxoff he dosen't have a clue the only thin he got right was the fat content if you have a good meat mix wether all beef, beef-turkey or what ever combo you like, square or round then it is all good. what a joke

Waxman, you're my hero. If I die tomorrow, let it be with a grilled burger in one hand and a beer in the other.

His prejudices show in his comments. There is nothing wrong with a square burger. They are usually round because of buns. Also, you CAN season a burger and it will come out very good. Garlic and onion seasoning go really well with them. No mention of buns either in the article. A really good bun adds quite a bit to a burger :-) And I disagree with the 75/25 meat mix. Most grocery stores don't make this mix with any great consistency. 80/20 chuck is the perfect fat to meat ratio. Angus meat is really good. Mixing with some bison can really make an outstanding burger ;-) Make sure you use the higher fat meat when mixing with bison as bison is way lean. The absolute best cheese is a sharp cheddar. Also, really good tomatoes are awesome. Add in some purple onions and some crisp lettuce. And, sorry but I happen to love a good spicy ketchup too :-)

I dont want to seem too negative, but the Hamburger is an All-American Classic? I thought the origins for this was like Germany, hence "burger". And where did Ham come from? Was the original first made with Ham instead of Beef? Anyways, great no-matter who invented it or how it's prepared...
