Quick Diet And Exercise Tricks To Tame Cellulite [video]

    By Laurel House

I don't get why tabloid magazines continue to "expose" celebrities with cellulite when the fact is that 85% of women- both fat and thin, have it! Another little-known fact about cellulite: it's not fat's fault. Which is actually bad news because since it's not a fat problem, dieting and exercise is not the curative… but it can help minimize the appearance and fight it off before it attacks in the first place.

Cellulite is free-floating fat cells that have penetrated a weakened lattice of connective tissue bands separating the layer of normal fat from the dermis (the middle layer of skin), and have become trapped just below the surface of the skin. There are 3 causes of the sticky stuff:

-Hormones (which is why men infrequently get it)

    -Genetics (Thanks a lot mom!)

    -Lifestyle (that's all on you).

Similar to diabetes and hypertension, despite its prevalence, doctors have yet to find a definitive cure for cellulite. However, they have come up with some incredibly effective techniques to manage it, slowing the occurrence, minimizing the appearance, and strengthening slackened tissues.

    Cellulite Management

The best way to help prevent and slow the spread of cellulite is by strengthening the fibers of the connective tissues through healing, tightening, and hydrating so that the escaped fat cells can't permeate the dermis even more. Sure, topicals and medical treatments can help tame the sticky situation… for a pretty penny; or you can take a lifestyle approach that includes Diet, Exercises and Sun Protection.

    Diet

There are certain bites with benefits that naturally help strengthen connective tissues, repair cell membranes and increase circulation, all essential components to cellulite management.

    A few diet suggestions include:

    · Whole Grain and Fruit Breakfast- to boost

    antioxidant levels.

    · Stay Hydrated- to keep your tissues and cells

    supple.

    · Eggs- the yolk is filled with lecithin which helps strengthen connective tissue. Eat 2 eggs each

    week.

    · Soybeans and Seaweed- both are boosted by lecithin.

    · Diet Rich in Raw Fruits and Vegetables- filled with both water and nutrients.

    · Goji Berry Snacks- The "wonder fruit" is bursting with amino acids, anti-inflammatories, and fights

off free radicals which have a direct affect on aging and skin integrity.

    Exercise

Exercise encourages better circulation, which can help get things (like fat cells) moving. But more than that, it minimizes the appearance of cellulite because, if you lose weight there is less surface area to display the stuff.

Here are the best exercises to help with cellulite:

    · Cardio- cardio is the best weight loss exercise that helps burn fat and lose weight so there's less

surface area to display the cellulite.

    · Explosive Exercises- to really engage the cellulite affected area. Like what? Reverse Lunge with

a Leg Lift, Step Ups w/ a Leg Lift.

    · Isometric Exercises- static exercises to hone in on the affected area and make it really burn. Like

what? Single Leg Plank, Wall Sit, Airplane- a great isometric Yoga pose.

Minimize sun exposure - I know, it's time to slip into that teeny weeny bikini, but you want to remember to slather on the SPF first. Why? UV rays can destroy connective tissue, causing blood vessels to weaken, and making cellulite more visible. I know… tanned skin seems to hide the appearance of cellulite, but instead of jeopardizing your skin's integrity, use spray tans or self-tanning creams to create a smoother appearance.

Cellulite or not, don't be afraid to flaunt your gorgeous body… celebs do, and they have cellulite too.

it is true that most people have cellulite, even the slimmest. Yet, here's my belief: if you've got plenty of $$ and aren't that glad about your cellulite, then go for a small lipo but then work on your body afterwards too, so that the fat does not deposit again. or else, just accept it! It's pesky and I don't like it on my legs either, but oh well....

"We should get past our negative perception of cellulite and accept it as part of life. Some athletes even have celluite, and some people have brown eyes and some have blue eyes, some people are tall and some are short.

We live in a too judgemental world, and it's a shame that many young folks don't discover after many years that they should have learned to love themselves for who they are instead of wasting years trying to make the perfect fit."

Well said and as simple as it was, it was really inspirational to me. Its emotionally and mentally exhausting trying to be perfect to everyone else because you hate yourself. I want to make more of an effort in how I view myself and start truly accepting and loving myself. Thank you for your comment, it put a smile on my face :)

I think one of the reasons pix of alleged celebs are taken is because often many of them are the ones that "taut" products that claim to work on various things that they claim to have used when in fact many alleged celebs have lipo/private trainers, etc. Many of todays products that "claim" certian things actually do not and that has been proven by Consumer Reports.Best way to get fit is to watch one's diet/excercise, etc. In other words, basics. No fancy products can make up for what a person can do themselves with a little effort.

I have had cellulite for years, and fat has never been an issue for me. I weigh 104 pounds and no matter what I do, I can't get rid of it. I live in the south, and it is very hot, yet I don't wear shorts because of the look of the back of my thighs. I have a flat stomach, toned everywhere else, but the back of my thighs looks like cottage cheese. I hate it, but it just doesn't want to go away. The sun was not an issue either. I have almost always worn jeans in the summer because I am a redhead and white as a ghost. Guess it's just another thing I can blame on genetics!!

Great acticle. And must give props to 'M'- loved ur post, "We should get past our negative perception of cellulite..." I wasted years 'trying to make the perfect fit'. And it still bothers me! Why do we feel the need to look like Barbie? I want to love and accept my body, cellulite and all! Thanks

I am glad to see you suggest lots of water, fruits and vegetables, not for cellulite control but for good health. Please stop perpetuating the myth that the cause of chronic disease is unknown. There are studies proving that hypertension and Type II diabetes can be controlled and in many cases reversed by following a plant based diet. Read The China Study or go see Fork Over Knives in a theater near you. www.forksoverknives.com Read the books written by Dr. Cadwell Esselstyn, Rip Esselstyn, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr, John MacDougall. It may save your life or the life of someone dear to you.

I obliterated the cellulite problem in a matter of weeks. A divorce was faster and far more effective than any exercise and diet program.

Oh my god.....diet and exercise? I never thought of that......who in the flying hell reads, buys, and follows these idiots on TV? I think they tell you in first grade to eat right and exercise.

or you could just not be fat. Genetics? Please! Lose some body fat (not weight, body fat) and report back with how that changes things. I've never seen someone in really good shape with a cottage cheese look. Low body fat % = no cellulite.

A lot of comments are suggesting cellulite are on fat people who are eating a bad diet with no exercise. I am 28, 5'7" and 125lbs, I am pretty thin but have cellulite collecting under my butt crease area. I exercise and I also chase around my toddler all day. What do you have to say about that? Don't assume cellulite is for the fat and lazy.

This been the best and truthful article I read so far. Its very true how exercising and lifestyle has alot to do with it. Everyone thinks its easy to stay in shape but as we get older it becomes more harder; skin starts to sag and metabolism beings to slow down drastically. Eating right and working out will always keep you in good health and perfect shape.

The diet suggested is excellent. Ice cream adds cellulite quickly; where as "iced" yogurt does not have the same effect. People with cellulite or weight issue often lack energy and have difficulties keeping up with cardio exercise. Join the "Y" or Exercise with television experts at home. Instead of sitting and watching Oprah or other favorite programs, exercise while watching them. Yoga done slowly, with an emphases and long term goal toward movement perfection, reduces cellulite. Yet again...one must know what their body is craving; and find a mineral or non cellulite (fat) food substitute to replace cravings. The "Will" to want to change and the "Persistence" to stick to your goals, are paramount.

While I agree with some that we should accept and love ourselves as we are, I also note that the lifestyle changes suggested in this article do a lot more than address cellulite. They are healthy overall choices that can add years to our lives and a quality of life to enjoy them. At 56 I am embracing a healthier lifestyle and feeling better for it. And plan to be around see my brand new grandson fulfill his dreams one day, God willing.

No matter what I do I will never have the body I had when I was 18. I might weigh the same but it's totally rearranged itself (apparently when I wasn't paying attention). But what I may not gain in the bod I can still gain in the things that matter even more. Health, family, quality of life, ability to serve others... to live, laugh and love to the fullest. Cellulite is here to stay but I'll do my cardio workout anyway! Weehoo!
