Sweaters without the frump: How to wear cozy knits this season

There is no denying it, sweater weather has officially arrived. But nothing ruins the feeling of slipping into a big, cozy sweater faster than a glance in the mirror or getting caught looking sloppy, especially when others know you as a fashion blogger. Thankfully, we can all avoid looking frumpy while thoroughly enjoying our soft knits.

Fight the frump by going over-sized

It may seem counter-intuitive, but a great way to stay cozy and hot at the same time is to wear an over-sized sweater. The trick is to pair the big, cozy knit with leggings and boots, instead of jeans. Show off the shape of your legs, without actually exposing them to the elements in a pair of tights, or throw the monstrosity of a sweater over a mini-dress, opaque tights, and heels for a cute, and comfortable, date-night look.

Turn heads by going long with a tunic

Tunic sweaters can fall into the over-sized category, or they can simply be long and sleek, like a Victoria's Secret Angora sweater. Pair with your favorite jeans and riding boots for a look that is anything but sloppy.

Sleek is a cinch with a belt

Over-sized, long, or simply bulky sweaters can all benefit from a belt. Whether you wrap a belt around your natural waistline, place it slightly higher, or sling it low on your hips, the result is polished and classy.

You can even have fun with this fashion tip by swapping a traditional belt for a silky scarf.

    Fall in love with layers

Put a few of these tips together to create a look that is cozier than your average outfit and flattering, too.

Start by putting an over-sized cardigan like this one by Ulla Popken over a colorful mini-dress and tights. Leave it unbuttoned, but cinched together with a belt. The layers will keep you cozy, while the overall look stays trendy and fresh.

With these tips you can have your sweater and look great, too!
