Ellen on Prop 8 and the JCPenney Protest

Ellen DeGeneres is speaking out about the overturning of Proposition 8, and the controversy sparked by "One Million Moms" over her role as JCPenney's new spokesperson.

"I'm sure the people who oppose it will try to appeal it, but it's a step in the right direction. So I'm happy," Ellen told her studio audience in an episode set to air Wednesday, February 8.

"However, it leads me to something else I'd like to talk about. You all may know that I've recently teamed up with JCPenney," she said, adding, "But there's a group called One Million Moms that isn't happy about it. And normally I try not to pay attention to my haters, but this time I'd like to talk about it, because my haters are my motivators.

"They wanted to get me fired, and I'm proud and happy to say that JCPenney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson. Which is great news for me because I also need some new crew socks. I'm really going to clean up with this discount."

She continued, "I mean, if they have a problem with spokespeople, what about the Pillsbury Doughboy? He runs around without any pants on, basically begging for people to poke his belly. What kind of message is that?"

"I usually don't talk about stuff like this on my show, but I really want to thank everyone who is supporting me. If you don't know me very well, if you're just watching maybe for the first time or you're just getting to know me, I want to be clear. Here are the values I stand for: I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you'd want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values."

It concerns me that people have this much extra time on thier hands to concern themselves with something this irrelevant. I am too busy helping my 14 year old with his homework, while cooking dinner and trying to fit in a work out, and make time to call my mother back.
Oh, and finding the time to watch Ellen!

*"Here are the values I stand for: I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you'd want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values." * Hmmm....I can't understand why anyone would find fault with a person who lives by these values! Ellen, you rock!

Ellen, I love you! You are always so positive in the face of hatred. Those million moms better hope their daughters turn out like you instead of learning to hate like their moms.

I'm a heterosexual woman in a traditional marriage and a conservative and I'd be proud to call Ellen my daughter. Good for JCP.

While I don't agree with Ellen's lifestyle.... it's not going to stop me from shopping at JC Penney or buy Cover Girl... The thing about individual liberties is that many people are not going to have the same values or identites as each other. So while I respectfully disagree with her in one area of life, I still think she as a pretty awesome person.

I don't agree with your lifestyle. If you like pepsi over coke I disagree with this lifestyle because I was raised liking coke and everyone around me likes coke. I feel good about liking coke because I like to agree with the people around me; it makes me feel comfortable to be a part of a group. I disagree that you like the other one; your lifestyle I mean. I disagree with it.

That has to be the dumbest reply I have seen in a while... Seriously? It's called tolerance (thus agreeing to disagree and living peacifully in it) and it's not the same thing as choosing a soda preference. It's just a bit more complicated than that. One doesn't have to accept anothers point of view to like or admire or even be friends with a person...

Johnny Pro: Drinking and driving puts others' lives in extreme danger. I don't understand how you could possibly say that's equal to two people of the same sex marrying.

Way to go JC Penney. I am currnetly in an 18 yr (and counting) gay relationship. We have 3 kids betweens us & 2 grandchildren. Our 2 youngest kids (18 & 19) are in college. We did not know were were not a traditional family. We both work hard for what we have. We volunteer in our community & help our friends & coworkers when they are down. We will now shop more at JC Penney because they did not buckle to bullying. I have never understood why people are so biased to others on something that is so personal as thier sexual orientation. That would be the same as being biased due to religion or color. We are the same as any other couple, only we are both women. Maybe you will see us around sometime and you can see we are like everyone else in the US. Just trying to make a home for our family. Follow me on Twitter at @LisaJisaWicked1
