Men’s grooming habits that turn women off

Ladies, tell me you agree. There is a horrific beauty double standard going on that we have to do something about. Now that it's summer, we've all been upping our beauty game— more shaving and waxing, keeping toenails in check— so the terrible grooming habits of our guys have become all the more glaring. Why is stomach-turning neglect (or in certain cases, too much attention) the norm? We're not asking guys to do anything we don't do ourselves. If you're feeling extremely grossed out by what you're seeing thanks to flip-flops and bathing suits, take comfort in this: You are not alone.
    man-shaving
We asked our Facebook friends (affectionately known as "Threaders") to share the grooming issues that irk them the most, and the answers were awfully familiar. One Threader asked if we could please paste the comments "on a huge billboard that all men can see." Well, here's our billboard equivalent! See the top ten offenses below and add more by posting on our Facebook wall.

    1. Long, dirty toe nails. Or, as one Threader called it, "Hobbit feet." I love that. It's true. Guys, you don't have to sit for a pedicure, but there's no excuse for claws filled with dirt.

    2. Hair where it shouldn't be. Nose hair was the number-one complaint with ear hair a close second. "Why is it so hard to buy a trimmer and a mirror?" asked a completely reasonable Threader. We don't have the answer.

    3. Mouth madness. This is just basics. We're brushing, flossing, and whitening, but certain guys seem to think they can get away with "yuck mouth," as a Threader called it. Not true.

    4. Unattractive smells. This can mean not showering often enough or not embracing deodorant. This is also related to #3 (see above).

    5. Eyebrow issues. Either overgrown or over plucked. We don't want unruly, caveman hairs, but we also don't want you to look more sculpted than we do.

    6. Too much cologne. If everything you touch starts to smell like your medicine cabinet, that's not good.

    7. Too much waxing. There's grooming and then there's grooming. No one wants to feel like they're with a newborn.

    8. Dry, cracked heels. You can put lotion on them, you know.

    9. Hair that never moves. If your hair is as hard as a car door, you've got to rethink your products.

    10. Letting your blackheads live on. Everyone has zits, especially in the hot and sweaty summer. But, jeez, if you have blackheads on your face, deal with them or book a facial where someone else will.

We apologize. An error has occurred. Please try again.

The Key to Every Woman's Heart

A group of girlfriends go on vacation and see a five-story hotel with a sign that reads "for women only." Since they are without their boyfriends, they decide to go in.

The doorman, a very attractive guy, explains to them how it works. "We have 5 floors. Go up floor by floor, and once you find what you're looking for, you can stay there. It's easy to decide, since each floor has signs telling you what's on that floor. The only rule is, once you leave a floor, you can't return to it."

The women talk it over and decide to go for it.

They start going up, and on the first floor the sign reads, "All the men here are horrible lovers, but they are kind and sensitive."

The friends laugh and without hesitation move on to the next floor.

Things that I find to be repulsive: (1) adults with bad zits/blackheads who refuse to do anything about them, (2) habitually picking your nose rather than blowing it, (3) scratching your privates/butt a lot, (4) not washing your hands after using the bathroom, (5) ignoring long, dirty fingernails or nasty toenails, and/or (6) having an excessive amount of body hair (like on your back) to where you resemble a "gorilla." That's just downright gross as far as I'm concerned and those things aren't in any specific order! I would never ask my hubby to have manis, pedis, or have his entire body waxed (manscaped) because it's unnecessary. Most folks who are with a partner that they really care about will take care of these issues without having to be reminded.

Women, the above mentioned article above could just as easily apply to you (i.e. get rid of that mustache on your upper lip, yank little stubborn chin hairs, shave where you need to, clean and trim dirty fingernails or toenails, scrub rough spots, don't cake on makeup or drown in perfume, etc), so take care of it. These things are in addition to showering and brushing your teeth on a daily basis. And when you shower, make sure you lather up enough with your cleanser and take a decent amount of time to get EVERYTHING clean, including those hard to reach places! If you have dry skin, apply some lotion to keep your body soft (not just in the winter time either) but don't overdue it. Pay attention to what your partner likes and doesn't like!

Any woman who gives me a list like this is a preachy drama type who is getting dropped. 8-D I groom neatly, I don't obsess, and my heels are no concern of anyone ! ROFL.

$100 says that you would wax your balls if Brooklyn Decker told you to do it before dating her.

What are women whining about? I wash my dirty ass every day, shave, clip my nails (beats biting them as I used to). I also bring in the bacon, if you young folks have ever heard that before. It was a chore staying clean aboard ship many years ago. The fresh water supply was for the purpose of operating the catapults (aircraft carriers). Whatever was left over, the crew could wash, but mostly, we had to take salt water showers. The Americans of this generation need a lesson in humility, and quit bitching. You don't know how good you have it.

This guy knows what he speaks of... we're all spoiled. Which is what gives us room to complain.
      • fixitlady 10 months ago
As long as he's not one of those bitchin about what a woman looks like... I'm OK with it. But if you expect your woman to look like she just walked off the cover of Vogue enduring 4 inch heels... then do something about yourself!

Sounds like the engineers were slacking, again (as usual). Ever notice the ECR is always cooler than the bridge?

Some of this is just no needed, certain things i expect from a guy. Thats what further splits men from woman..."nose hair" and "eyebrow issues" really?

The ugliest thing I see women do is shave their eyebrows off and paint new ones on. If you are reading this I just want to let you know people are grossed out by it. Just being honest.
      • Zang2nd 10 months ago
Not only does it look very, very STUPID, but they're almost never painted on evenly...

      • Phil 10 months ago
They ain't looking anywhere but our wallets Dennis. If we don't look like we can afford their dream life they don't give a shit about us. LOL! At all thumbs down this comment will be getting.

Some women are like that, poor dears, but not all women are like that. And what about the women you overlook on your way to the next ex who you'll berate and snark about, who'll be part of your pattern of shallow-whore-after-my-cash-but-not-my-heart blah dee blah? Try all sorts, not just the same sort. And why are you with women who only like you for your ready flow of cash? That's your problem that needs fixing. But continue the shallow hating of all women, that's a lot more fun than...whatever is more fun that that.
      • frankiel 10 months ago
It is part of the complains women constantly put on men. Are you surprised? Only women think they could do no wrong! Funny Batgirl said "shallow hating" of women? Wow, to the contrary, this whole artical is about women being shallow by judging men on how they look! Humm, I guess it's not popular to call women shallow huh? As you see even on this board, men are not buying it!

Would a man be considered a chauvanist pig if he wrote a similar top 10 thread about women's worst habits?
    • KaNaCa  •  10 months ago
The sense I get from this article and from some of the comments is that women are not really looking for a "MAN" but a slightly masculine version of themselves. No self respecting male frined of mine would NEVER wax, have a facial, lotion up their heels etc. They do bathe daily, brush their teeth, comb their hair (If not wear a hat), trim their toenails (long ones hurt when wearing boots all day) and even shave their faces when needed.

Ladies, what is it you really want? A manly man or one that smells pretty?

In this culture, people need to work on the inside far more than they need to work on the outside.
    • Starbuck  •  9 months ago
All these things are equally gross on women. Where is the fairness in this article?
    • dave  •  10 months ago

    • Nonya  •  10 months ago
I've got a question for all the ladies out there in the world that are complaining about men's grooming habits. Why don't you ladies stop trying to be so much like super models and so damn skinny and worrying so much about things that aren't important and deall with the way us guys are the way we are. You don't hear us coplaining about how you all look so damn skinny, that if you stood behind a damn lamp post, you wouldn't be able to be seen. Here's a thought ladies....GAIN SOME DAMN WEIGHT AND WORRY ABOUT THE IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE AND IN THIS WORLD LIKE...MAKING AN HONEST DAYS PAY BY ACTUALLY GETTING OUT IN THE HEAT AND WORKING A REAL JOB INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT GETTING YOUR TAN'S IN A SALON OR YOUR KEEPING YOUR TOOTH PICK FIGURE!!!! Some of us guys like some meat on our women, not so damn skinny....
