Charles Dharapak / AP ImagesMichelle Obama knows what she's
doing. In a fashion-forward,
calculated move, our First Lady
visited the Emthonjeni Community
Center in South Africa last Tuesday
wearing a $60 printed top from
ASOS' Africa fairtrade collection.
This collection, which is made in
Mombasa, is great because it
helps underprivileged communities
to establish sustainable business
through their local craftsmanship.
With her daughters, mother, niece
and nephew trailing closely behind
her, Mrs. Obama toured the colorful
grounds in her own version of a smart pantsuit. Navy wide-leg pants and a matching vest anchored the vibrant top (which features the Kitenge print from Tanzania).
ASOS Africa top, $60.
From the sale of each item from the UK-based ASOS Africa line, £5 (approximately $8) is donated to SOKO Kenya, a workshop that focuses on developing sustainable, fair-wage employment and training.
