The Right Eyeglasses For Your Face Shape, All Under $100!

In a perfect world, we'd all have 20/20 vision. Contacts are expensive and glasses are easily lost and broken, but pending some sort of genetic mutation it looks like a lot of us are out of luck. Now, even for you exclusively contact-wearing sight-challenged people, it's good to have a back-up pair of glasses. And these shouldn't be a really outdated, bent pair, just as your lounging-around-the-house clothes shouldn't be over-sized and full of holes. Call me vain if you must, but I call it putting in effort (see also: not letting yourself go). Your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/dog/cat/kid/roommate will thank you.

The right frames are not universal. What works on my round-faced homegirls is not going to cut it on my triangle-faced friends. That's right; buying the most flattering eyeglasses is all about the shape of your face. Read on for your tailor-made advice.

Square Face (think Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston, Keira Knightley)

    The 'Mata Hari', AJ Morgan.com

Girls with angular facial structure look best in glasses with a bit of a curve to them. It's softening and provides an important contrast.

Oval Face (think Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Christina Aguilera)

The 'Kat,' Spexclub.com, $58 plus RX.

The oval-shaped face is apparently the most coveted for glasses-wearing (but I think you're all beautiful!) in that it can sort of handle the widest variety of frames. The one that happens to look the best is the cat-eye because of the upward turn of the corners and the heavier top half; these traits are supposed to define cheekbones and minimize chin size.

Inverted Triangle Face (think Reese Witherspoon, Ciara, Nicole Richie)

The 'Rimless Pure Titanium', Zennioptical.com, $39.99 plus RX.For you inverted triangles (also known as the heart-shaped face - - AWW!), the key to selecting the best frames is finding a pair that DOESN'T draw attention to the wideness of the upper portion of your face. Nothing heavy that lays across your cheeks in a rectangle, then.  A great option for you is a light and airy rimless pair like the ones at left.

Round Face (think Cameron Diaz, Kirsten Dunst, Catherine Zeta-Jones)

    The 'Winston', Warbyparker.com, $95.

The last thing a rounded-faced girl needs is more curved lines. The latest trends in ironically nerdy glasses come into play here. Never thought you'd wear hard-edged geometric glasses in a tortoise shell shade again? You are wrong, my friend!
