Turtlenecks, The Celebrities Who Love Them, And You

Generally, turtlenecks are stifling-hot neck-squeezers that ruin your hairdo but the fashion industry and the celebrities in this gallery disagree with me. They were all over the runways this year: Michael Kors, Derek Lam, and Alexander Wang are a few names you may recognize who showed the extended-neck tops. This look can go a variety of different ways, so bear with me if you're interested in taking a turtleneck for a test-drive. And then check the gallery for a wide range of inspiration!

    Turtleneck DOs:

    - Layer under a jacket, a vest or a blazer.

    - If you're going to wear a necklace, make sure it's big and short, and your turtleneck is thin and tight.

    - Turtleneck dresses!

    - Turtlenecks UNDER dresses!

    - Sleeveless turtlenecks!

    - Tight turtlenecks with loose pants or skirts.

    Turtleneck DONTs:

    - White turtlenecks, unless it's the 1990's and you're a dad coaching a soccer game in late November.

    - If you're well-endowed up top, no turtlenecks. Sorry :(

    - Tight turtlenecks with tight pants. Catwoman effect.

    - Turtlenecks under ponchos.

    - Turtlenecks with scarves.

    - Long necklaces with heavy turtlenecks.

    - Turtleneck maternity dresses. Too tent-like.

Umm..Don't number 2 "If you're well-endowed up top, no turtlenecks." And then you show Christina Hendricks, and what is she best known for...her HUGE boobs. Make up your mind!

Have you seen what people actually wear these days? Do you really need to be told how to wear a turtleneck? Do you seriously feel the need for people to tell you how to dress anymore now that you don't live with your mother? Wear and do what you want...screw what other people think....

I keep forgetting to wear turtlenecks UNDER my dresses.......I like the look! We should buy darker print dresses in the summer and then wear them during the fall and winter with lightweight turtlenecks underneath.

Turtlenecks keep me warmer in my cold office, plus they look GOOD!

I hated them when I was a kid, but slowly got into them from about 25 onwards.

Now I wear them roughly seven months of the year, depending how cold it is.

Mostly it's casual wear with jeans or slacks and under either a blazer, V-neck/crewneck sweater or a heavier turtleneck without layering.

Turtlenecks can be very sexy, the problem is so much skin is usually shown, the average person can't imagine what is under that turtleneck!

you forgot that a turtle neck covers up an aging neck beautifully. takes years off your neck.
