Women's grooming habits that turn men off

When we did a post about men’s grooming habits -- or lack there of-- you all shared strong opinions about nose hair, black fingernails, and “hobbit feet.” But are there any habits of ours that give guys the same horror-induced reaction? It seems impossible, but Redbook magazine’s “Whys Guy” columnist, Aaron Traister, insists that a few of our favorite tricks are actually man repellents. Before you break out the self-tanner, extra-hold hairspray, and strawberry-scented lip gloss, watch this episode.

This kind of thing happens with clothes all the time. We pick a dress that we think is trendy and fun, and all guys think is, “looks uncomfortable.” The same disconnect exists when it comes to our beauty routines. The care and effort that we put into our presentation-- the same care and effort that often make us feel confident and sexy-- is interpreted by guys as “unnecessary,” or worse, “unappealing.” Redbook’s Aaron Traister cites the following:

Self-tanner

Right now we’re all a little pale from months spent indoors and it seems reasonable to me to add a little bit of a store-bought bronze glow. Obviously, most guys are put off by Snooki’s orange interpretation of tan, says Aaron, but showcasing your own skin--however translucent it may be--is the sexiest option of all.

Hairspray

I’d like to note that there’s hairspray and then there’s hairspray. A bit of the nonsticky kind is critical at times, guys! Aaron says no guy wants to get his hand stuck in a web of helmet hair.

Tweezing

According to Aaron, plucking eyebrow hairs seems like self-torture. It doesn't feel great. But I ask you, does the mild sting feel as torturous as a unibrow looks?

Face masks

Guys are freaked out by these-- especially the green ones. I believe a few minutes of a green face is worth it to hydrate and nourish your skin. In fact, guys, you might want to give it a shot.

Lip gloss

This one is a bummer as adding a bit of shimmer or shine to your lips is pretty much a beauty staple. Head's up, ladies! Guys don’t enjoy the goopy, flavored variety. Go for a light formulation on a date and save your thicker gloss for girls' night.
