Themed Valentine's Day Dates You Can Enjoy at Home

Are you racking your brain, trying to figure out the perfect place to go for your Valentine's Day date? Trying to come up with something out of the ordinary? Believe it or not, some of the most amazing Valentine's Day dates can take place right in the comfort of your own home. Themed dates make for out-of-the-box evenings and some excellent quality time, designed just for you! With a little planning and a little creativity, you can have a themed Valentine's Day date that you and your sweetheart will remember forever.

    Pajama Party

Comfy clothes are required on this Valentine's Day date; fun pajama pants are preferred. Eat all the junk your parents let you have only at sleepovers - ice cream sundaes, popcorn with melted butter, and raw cookie dough (without the eggs!). Pop in a rented DVD, prank call your friends, and stay up all night telling secrets. You could even sleep in a sleeping bag - even if it is spread out over a comfortable bed.

    Blast from the Past

Retro is the key for this Valentine's Day date! Reminisce about all the favorites from your youth. Eat your favorite childhood snack or meal, from macaroni and cheese to corn dogs to fruit snacks. Break out your favorite board or video games. Watch your favorite old-school movies or TV shows and marvel over all the subtext you are just realizing you never understood. Most importantly, chat about your embarrassing obsessions and funniest memories from your younger years, and get to know where one another came from.

    Beach Bliss

So what if it's snowing? Bring the beach to your living room this Valentine's Day! Show off your culinary skills and whip up your favorite seafood dishes or boardwalk treats. Put on your T-shirts and shorts and watch a beach-themed movie or TV show, like "Gilligan's Island" or "Couple's Retreat." Blend up a batch of margaritas, turn on some island tunes, and spend the rest of the evening telling stories about your favorite beach vacations and dreaming about all the beaches you'd like to visit one day.

    Our Journey

For those couples that have a long history, let your Valentine's Day date tell the story of your relationship. Think back to all the milestones that have made you who you are. Work elements of these important moments into your date. Wear the outfit you had on when you first met. Eat the dinner you ate on your first date - take it out from the same restaurant, if you can! Look through photo albums and reminisce over your favorite vacations and special occasions. Listen to the songs that are special to you. You could even use your first fight as a conversation starter to spend the evening talking about how far you've come together.

    Made from the Heart

Get your creative juices flowing and have a Valentine's Day date with all things homemade! Cook a dinner from scratch and bake a homemade dessert. Watch home videos. Perform live music for one another. Work on a craft or home improvement project together. You could even design your own T-shirts to wear with some tie-dye, fabric markers, and/or a screen-printing kit. Best of all, give each other homemade valentines or letters written from the heart. That kind of gift will reign supreme over a bouquet of flowers or expensive watch any day.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Use your Valentine's Day date as an opportunity to indulge in all your favorites. Is there an outfit your man particularly likes you in? Wear it! Do you have a favorite pizza? Order it! Watch your favorite movie, eat your favorite ice cream, listen to your favorite tunes, play your favorite games, sip your favorite beer or wine... heck, even use some of the night to allow each other to indulge in those favorite hobbies you never seem to have time for anymore. To top it all off, you'll be with your favorite person!

    Red Carpet

Even if you're staying home for your Valentine's Day date, why not get fancy and pull out all the stops? Put on your best clothes, doll up your hair, and spend some time on your makeup, while your guy gets decked out in his favorite suit and tie. Cook (or order in) an upscale dinner, drink an expensive wine, and pop in a classical CD. Since it's a "Red Carpet" date, watch an award-winning movie, and finish the night by giving each other "awards" as valentines. What guy wouldn't like a "Best Handyman," "Best Kisser," or "Best Boyfriend" award?

Choosing any of these themed dates is sure to get you and your sweetheart well on your way to a fun, unique Valentine's Day. Just remember, things don't have to go perfectly. When it comes down to it, all you and your valentine need to have the perfect evening is each other!
