User post: Book review of "Same Kind Of Different As Me"

I have to admit, I was not looking for a book for myself when I spied this one.
First the title caught my eye, and then the cover design, so I picked it up,
flipped it over, read the back and took it straight to the register.

"Same Kind Of Different As Me" is published by Thomas Nelson Inc.2006
Authors are Ron Hall, Denver Moore with Lynn Vincent.
It was a New York Times Bestseller and is a true story and that
is what gripped me, it is a true story!

And I quote (from the front cover)"a modern day slave, an international art dealer,
and the unlikely woman who bound them together."

In the center of the book are pictures of the real people involved in this story.
No, let me rephrase that, the people who are the story.
It is amazing from the first page to the last, how these unlikely people were brought
together and what was accomplished through them.

The story carries you and the people involved, through "a burning plantation hut,
an East Texas honky-tonk, a Hollywood Hacienda, an upscale New York art gallery,
a down town dumpster, a homeless shelter and a ranch in Texas".

You watch people from totally different walks of life come together,
change the world around them, and in the process
loose their preconceived notions about each other
and see trust, love, compassion, deep and abiding friendships bloom.

Starting on page 241 there is "Where are they now?" section.
It is a conversation with the authors, question and answer style.

This is definitely one book that will go into my own library. It's a "keeper".
It has enhanced my life so much. I'm glad I "spied" it.
No, actually what I believe happened was, it spied me and said,
"Hey, hey, look, I'm over here. Pick me up, you'll like me."
I'm sure glad I did!
