Here's the truth -- I prefer a natural look but I'm not completely confident about walking around with a naked face! I'm post 30, (just by a hair) and changes in my skin tone along like brown spots make plain moisturizer seem like a non-starter. However, I'm a gal that appreciates beauty science and with so many reputable skin care companies offering a tinted moisturizer I figured there must be something in it. So which should I choose - the new Love Me Deux tinted moisturizer by Votre Vu or Mary Kay's Crème to Powder Foundation?
The moisture level: My skin type is dry, dry dry! One thing I liked about wearing a creamy makeup is that it felt good on my skin, at least at first. I gave tinted moisturizer a shot found the results were much better. I didn't dry out, even at the end of the day and my skin felt smoother. Tinted moisturizer won this round.
The sun protection: Since I am considered a "mature" lady, I knew that I must have sun protection. Without it my skin would look like one large brown age spot. After reading the fine print I discovered MK's foundation contained a Broad Spectrum SPF 20 while Votre Vu's moisturizer didn't contain any SPF. Thumbs up to Mary Kay for this one.
The coverage factor: I was thrilled to see that Vu's product was actually two products, a concealer and a moisturizer. After applying the moisturizer, you dab concealer on any blemishes for added coverage. I had great coverage and loved the way it looked, even around my hairy sideburns. Mary Kay's Crème to Powder makeup covered beautifully too but Vu's tinted moisturizer did just as well. On this round it was a tie!
The price: Mary Kay's Crème to Powder makeup costs $14 plus tax and shipping and the size is pretty small. It doesn't come in a case, you have to buy one separately, another $16. Love Me Deux costs $30 plus tax and shipping. The price was also a tie.
In my comparison, I found that a tinted moisturizer works as long as I use a concealer. Since I already use a concealer, this was no hardship for me. I like the way that Love Me Deux feels and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a tinted moisturizer.
