Tips for getting more done in your work day

It often seems like there's never enough time to get everything done in a work day. We're under constant pressure to stick to deadlines while still trying to do all the work correctly. You don't have to struggle every day to get everything done that you need to. There are actually extra minutes and even hours you may not even realize you have. When you need to get more done in your work day, there are several ways to make it happen without sacrificing in other areas of your life.

    Make a to-do list

This is one of the most important ways to get more done at work. It sounds simple enough, but a lot of people don't even bother with it. It's a really useful tool for making sure you don't forget to do anything and having to rush around last minute. Make the list the day before and put the most important tasks on top, but leave a space in between each one in case more need to be added on the following morning.

Do the most challenging things first

When you get the challenging tasks over with, it's a big sigh of relief and you don't have to stress over those things the rest of the day. It's also a huge feeling of accomplishment when you get them finished so it can give you a big boost of motivation to get everything else done on your list.

    Take a breather

Constantly going nonstop while you're at work is a recipe to burn out quickly. Take a breather at least every two hours. Walk away from your work for a few minutes, stretch your legs and step outside and breathe fresh air if you can. It can help give you a burst of energy and push you to complete what you need to.

    Delegate

I know what it's like to want to do everything yourself, but when you have so much to do and there's not enough of you to go around, asking for some help is not a bad thing. However, make sure you ask people you trust, who you know are capable of handling the tasks, so you're not going to have to fix their mistakes later on.

    Stay off social networking sites

You go on Facebook and before you know it you realize you just lost an hour you won't be able to get back. It's tempting to go on any social networking site during the day, but avoid them at all costs if you can help it. They completely suck the hours away from things you're supposed to be doing. It might seem enjoyable at the moment, but just think about how stressed and rushed you're going to be later on when you're trying to get things finished.

    Say no

If you have no time to do a favor for someone or complete an extra work task, then don't hesitate to say no. I know it's difficult because many of us want to help others, but we can't always sacrifice our happiness and stress levels to add one more thing to our plate. We have to draw the line somewhere.

There are always ways we can get more done in our work day and be more efficient. When we stick within a certain time frame instead of having to make up the hours, it helps prevent us from working overtime and missing out on personal time we could have had for ourselves or with loved ones. Keep in mind that the more you stay energized and focused, the more you can get done in your work day, so you can thoroughly enjoy yourself later without worrying or stressing.
