Tips for Shopping at Grocery Outlets

Many people look down on grocery outlets and think of them only as a place that carries outdated food. This couldn't be further from the truth. While there are times when outdated food is stocked on the shelves, grocery outlets can be a valuable source for great deals. The key is knowing how to shop at grocery outlets.

    Tip #1: Know Your Prices

Just because it's a grocery outlet doesn't mean the prices are always cheaper. Sometimes they can be just as expensive or even more expensive that regular grocery stores. If you want the best deals, keep a price guide. A price guide contains the items you most frequently buy along with the prices for the stores in your area. Having a price guide handy will ensure you get the best deals from a grocery outlet.

    Tip #2: Check the Dates

As mentioned above, most items are in date at grocery outlets, but there will be those items that are out of date. This means you should always check the date, no matter what the item is. This can save you a ton of money because most grocery outlets will not accept returns.

    Tip #3: Inspect Packages Carefully

Dented cans and crushed packaging is common at grocery outlets. Because of this, it's important to inspect packages to make sure they haven't been torn open. A small dent here or a squished box there isn't going to hurt many products. But, cans dented to the point that they leak is a problem.

Tip #4: Only Buy What You'll Use

Grocery outlets are loaded with great deals, but many people end up buying items they never use or won't use before they expire. Think carefully before adding an item to your buggy. Will you consume the product before it goes bad? Is it something you'll actually use? Considering each item will save you money in the long run.

Tip #5: Hit Grocery Outlets First

Once you get the hang of shopping at grocery outlets, it pays to visit them before heading to more expensive grocery stores. The items in grocery outlets are always changing. You never know what may be available. That's why it makes sense to shop grocery outlets for the items on your list first. You will usually find at least a few of the items on your list, which can save you a lot of money over the course of a year.
