Summer may be halfway over, but that doesn't mean you can't get started with a healthier lifestyle. Eating healthier and getting fit can take place any time of year, so don't feel like it's not a good time to make simple, positive changes. Even if you've been eating healthy and exercising, sometimes we all fall into ruts and need a restart - and some simple tips help you break through any plateau or get you on the right track to feel your best in no time at all:
Start with a goal - Sometimes the only way to feel like you're making progress is to have a result in mind. Creating a goal before you get started with any healthy lifestyle plan gives you something to work towards and it allows you to measure your progress along the way. It's important to keep goals realistic - you can't lose 30 pounds in one month in a healthy manner, but rather, implementing exercise and healthy eating allows you to lose one to two pounds each week safely. For me, creating a goal I know I can accomplish sets me up for success, and it will help you feel confident as you go through your healthy lifestyle journey.
Clean out the kitchen - When I have junk food in the kitchen I don't follow a diet very well, so the best way for me to stick to healthy eating is simply not have it in the house. If you're planning to start a healthy eating plan, clean out the refrigerator, pantry and cabinets of temptations or junk food so you don't start your diet off on the wrong foot.
Give yourself healthy options - Just as cleaning out the kitchen of temptation and junk food is the best way to avoid falling off the wagon, replace those foods with healthier options. Keep a variety of foods in the house to satisfy cravings such as fruit when you want something sweet or healthy foods that offer you a savory or crunchy flavor.
When adapting to a healthier lifestyle, the number one tip I've taken away from fitness and health leaders is to plan to succeed. Create healthy menu options so you're not stuck being hungry and have no idea what to make. Schedule your workouts so you know when to expect them and plan to set time aside for exercise. Preparation is one of the most important factors of any healthy lifestyle and it will help keep you on track.
