Delicious and easy!
The holidays may well be my family's busiest time of year. Between our regular school and activity schedule and getting ready for Christmas, my time for cooking and cleaning is limited. You can almost forget about baking. Black and white pudding squares are a quick, easy no-bake dessert that you can add to your dessert repertoire when you need to whip something up for a neighborhood get-together or holiday party.
The first time I made black & white pudding squares I was pleased to find that I already had most of the ingredients in my pantry or refrigerator. You'll need 1 package of Oreo cookies, ¼ stick of butter, 3 cups of milk, 2 packages of JELL-O vanilla flavor instant pudding, 1 package of JELL-O chocolate instant pudding, and 1 package of cream cheese. The ingredients will cost approximately $10-15, depending on your grocery store and what you already have on hand.
Creating your crust
The crust of your black & white pudding squares is created with approximately 24 crushed Oreos and the melted butter. Make sure to crush your cookies completely or the crust will be difficult to spread in a 13x9 dish.
Fashioning the frosting
Mix together 1 ½ cups of milk, both packages of JELL-O vanilla flavor instant pudding, and 8 ounces of softened cream cheese to create your frosting. It's really important to take your time blending these three ingredients. If your cream cheese isn't softened, it will be difficult to mix and even more difficult to spread. Once the ingredients are well blended, use a lightly floured spreader to spread the mixture on top of the Oreo crust.
Crafting your chocolate swirls
The final step in creating your pudding squares are the chocolate swirls. Mix together the JELL-O chocolate instant pudding mix and the remaining milk with a wire whisk until well-blended. Spoon the pudding into a plastic bag. Then, snip a small corner of the bag off. Squeeze the pudding over your dessert in straight lines.
Finish off your dessert by dragging a toothpick or a butter knife through the thin chocolate lines you've just added. This will create swirls in your black & white pudding bars. Then, refrigerate your dessert for at least 12 hours before cutting it into squares.
These black & white pudding squares were delicious, simple, and because they can be made ahead of time, the perfect addition to my holiday baking list.Content by Kelly Herdrich.
