This weekend one of my favorite New York Times writers, Maureen Dowd, penned a column about one of my favorite foodies, the chef/ activist Alice Waters. Dowd calls Waters the "fairy godmother" of the White House organic vegetable garden, since she's been pushing the concept since 1993. Waters, of course, loves that the Obama's have finally planted one this spring! Her only hesitancy? The fact that beets were banned from the garden, due to President Obama's dislike of the root veggie. On that topic, Waters said:
