Having been married for ten years (together for a total of 12), I am quite happily half way through my divorce (well, happy and GETTING divorced don’t really go together, but I’m happy the process is half over). Part of the process for me has been working on rediscovering…

"It's like riding a bike." Our all-purpose metaphor for any skill which, learned once, comes casually back when tried again, usually much later. There's something joyful in this idea - some delight in both recalling the work it took to master the skill in the first place and the surprise with which we pick it right back up. How perfect to be able to share this essential skill (and metaphor) with your little one! Read More »

Have you ever felt like you wanted to climb the highest
mountain but had no idea how to do it? That was me for
several decades. Big thoughts, no actions to back them up.
Then I got a wake up call after decades of abusing food and trying
to eat myself to death. The scales said 440...

Well I always thought it would be too hard but I did it twice this week. I rode my bike into work! I live about 12 miles away and Wednesday I rode the whole way. Today (Friday) I drove 5 miles closer to work and parked at my co-worker's house and we rode in together. It all started because Wednesday was Denver's anual "Bike to work day". It was great. I think this will be a normal thing for me once or twice a week from now on. I really enjoyed it and I never thought I would. I'm glad I tried it! Read More »

Meet Champers! Champers is my new, champagne-colored bicycle. I haven’t owned a bicycle in over a dozen years, but I’ll be picking her up from the bike shop after work this evening and I’m totally stoked. I totally owe props to Anne at Body of Work for inspiring me to check out Electra’s... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (3) | Blog

This was the best idea I ever had, I told E. Buying a bike. And he agreed with me. He doesn't usually agree with me. Usually, he positively delights in arguing with me, but this time, I am unequivocally correct, in my judgment, here. Buying a bike has been so good for me, and my sense of... We seem to be all a-buzz about biking here on Healthy Living (love that). I thought it would be fun and time-efficient to gather all of our cycling conversations in one room (or post or whatever) to share tips, information and inspiration. Whether you're rocking the cruiser, mountain bike,... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (2) | Blog

Of course, a great deal of it is the sun
talking. A bike is the most perfect transportation solution for me! I
should not get a car, which is terrible for the environment and
increasingly expensive in a number of very troubling ways, including
ethically, environmentally, and physically speaking,... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (1) | Blog
