Dal lives in New Orleans, and after Katrina, he could see large amounts of weather-hardy wood like Cypress and Cedar being thrown in the garbage--what a shame to let that good wood go to waste! My desire for this object is nowhere near being grounded in reality, because not only do I not have $5000 lying around to blow on something like this, I would not have anyplace to put it. But if I did, this massive, crazy beautiful birdcage would instantly be in my shopping cart. It's made of elaborately wrought iron with a zinc roof that looks like it could have come straight from the pages of some kind of amazing Gothic storybook. It might be a bit out there, but I picture it in my fantasy seaside cottage (which would be kind of ramshackle from the outside but modern-minimalist on the inside, save for a few offbeat touches—starting with this gigantic old-fashioned, slightly zany statement piece).
