Reclaimed Wood Goods' handmade birdhouses for the soul
We think we finally understand what They Might Be Giants meant. Take a look at these charming birdhouses in the Etsy shop of Reclaimed Wood Goods--handmade by Dal Carstens.
Dal lives in New Orleans, and after Katrina, he could see large amounts of weather-hardy wood like Cypress and Cedar being thrown in the garbage--what a shame to let that good wood go to waste! So he reclaimed the wood and built lodging for the neighborhood birds. It's inspiring to see something beautiful built from disaster. Read More »

Michel Coudanne's whimsical zinc top birdcage
My desire for this object is nowhere near being grounded in reality, because not only do I not have $5000 lying around to blow on something like this, I would not have anyplace to put it. But if I did, this massive, crazy beautiful birdcage would instantly be in my shopping cart. It's made of elaborately wrought iron with a zinc roof that looks like it could have come straight from the pages of some kind of amazing Gothic storybook. It might be a bit out there, but I picture it in my fantasy seaside cottage (which would be kind of ramshackle from the outside but modern-minimalist on the inside, save for a few offbeat touches—starting with this gigantic old-fashioned, slightly zany statement piece).

The Egg Post: Happy Easter!
This is
my obligatory Easter post. With a twist. I'm not going to talk about
Crabtot and Easter. She will have her Easter egg and that will be that.
I won't bore you with the minutiae.
Except to say that I briefly considered taking her to the local egg
hunt on the village green of... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (0) | Blog
