With the 25th anniversary of Like a Virgin's release this month, this seems like the perfect time for a retrospective on Queen Madge, whose style has shaped the taste of at least two generations of women. Katy Perry isn't the only celebrity hopping on the sparkly, encrusted nail bandwagon. Beyonce had similarly wild nails with heart-shaped jewels on them last night at the MTV Europe Awards, and Kristen Bell was sporting iridescent foiled nails recently, too. I think this trend is so creative and cool, but what about you?

Admit it: Sometimes you want Jem and the Holograms hair ( I get dibs on Aja). I know it can be a little scary, or seem extreme, but there's no time like the present to try a little wild color. Celebrities know this, and tons of them, regardless of their age or their image, go for a little pink, purple, or blue once in a while. Adding a bold shade to your color repertoire is easier than you think, and to show you the prettiest ways to wear a little bold color, as well as the pitfalls, I've put together 30 examples of stars gone Rainbow Brite. Click through the gallery and get colorful. Read More »

Just when we thought there couldn't possibly be any more ways to wear braids, who better than trend-setting Lauren Conrad to bring us back in? At the Hollywood Style Awards last night in LA, the former reality show star styled her signature waist-length extensions in not just one side-braid, but two intersecting plaits. Celebrity stylist Byron Williams of the Byron and Tracey Salon created the look for Lauren, using her multihued frock as inspiration. "We wanted to get it as narrow as possible because we didn’t want to overwhelm the dress," Williams said. "It was side-parted, and we French braided both sides. It’s kind of half-up, half-down." To finish off the look, he combined the two braids to create a "headband" in the back. Want some tips on getting the overlapping braids for yourself? Follow the link after the gallery. To get Williams's advice, just keep reading. Read More »

Blue might just be having a moment. From oceanic polish colors to recent avant-garde looks we saw on the runway in New York, perhaps there is a slight resurgence of the cool-toned shade as of late. Do you think that blue is cool but don't want to run the risk of looking totally '80s? Let's look at Jennifer Garner for inspiration. At the LA premiere of The Invention of Lying, Jennifer proved that blue doesn't have to look outdated or aging. The actress, who wore a smoky, muted version of the tone, paired the look with complementary pink cheeks and lips, keeping the palette from becoming too Smurfy. Read More »

For times when the sultry bedhead hairstyle or tousled beach waves aren't what you're going after, why not play up the sexy side of curls with something a bit more mellow? You can still rock a come-hither look, without going the route of the old-timey roller set-style, either. At Milan Fashion Week, Hilary Swank looked stunning with waved hair that avoided being too prim and proper. What I like most about her loose, softly rolled curls is that they're not perfectly pouffed, but they still have that sensuous factor without being too in-your-face sexpot. This is a look I do about once or twice a week when I've got about five extra minutes in the morning, and by nighttime, it's perfectly tousled for cocktail hour. Read More »

Every day we're confronted with images of celebrities who've had their teeth capped, veneered, zoom whitened, Invisaligned, and any number of other surgical and chemical processes — smiles that no real person has and that run into the thousands of dollars to create. Which is why it's refreshing when a little bit of naturalness peeps through. There's no case where this is more true than with gap teeth, which, prior to our symmetry and straightness-obsessed age, were a sign of seductive prowess (anybody remember the Wife of Bath in the Canterbury Tales? In Merry Olde England, gap teeth were quite the hot thing— kinda like Marilyn Monroe and Cindy Crawford's moles). And despite the prevailing culture, the ladies I've put together still look sexy as hell, no dentist required. So c'mon, get gappy and check these famous spaces out. Read More »
