Ever heard of the brand e.l.f.? It can be a little tricky to find (it often sells at Big Lots!, Food 4 Less, Kmart and online of course) but if you do, you'll discover that basically everything (we're talking foundation, blush, eyeshadows, everything) cost $1.
Makeup for $1?! It sounds too good to be true, so it's no wonder TotalBeauty.com readers were skeptical. Check out their comments below, and if you want to try it out for free (hey, you can buy a lot else with that dollar), click here. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (20) | Blog

It sounded like mission impossible when my editor gave me this task: put together a complete (and she did mean complete) makeup look -- without spending more than $5 on any one product. As in, no luxe lipsticks, no life-changing (but $60) foundation, and no looking like a clown (or this celeb) when finished.
I was all set to abort, but then I found these products. All of them are loved by our readers and editors and all are super-cheap. Put them together and you have a red carpet look on a golden arches budget. Mission accomplished.

Curious? Then check out this buying guide based on the Lumene products TotalBeauty.com readers love -- and hate. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (13) | Blog

I need to get into the mascara business. During these crappy economic times it's the only beauty product whose sales have actually gone up. Three guesses why:
1. Uh, most of us wear it (duh)
2. They keep coming out with newer! better! thicker! longer! formulas like these
3. You have to replace it at least every three months
Wait, rewind that. Every three months, for reals? Do I actually need to do this? Or is it a money-sucking scam? Anyone out there keep it four months or more?
