Extend-the-summer trend: Dandelion motifs
I don't know about you, but in my neck of the woods, it feels like summer is flying by. The only recourse is to switch into high enjoy-every-minute gear: Eating more ice cream, taking more sunbathing lunches, and sprinkling the house with summery accessories. Perhaps the most potent (next to,... Read More »

For the record
I just spotted these record letterpress coasters from Things are better with a parrott's etsy shop today. Graduating from gocco to a letterpress, Sarah has a great sense of design, and I'm loving these. They are letterpressed by hand on her vintage Golding Jobber No.6 on 3.5" round heavy coaster stock. If only I could really sew: pinwheel quilted coasters
I like to try sewing projects because I think (or am disillusioned) that someday, just someday, I might get the hang of it. My grandmother was an amazing seamstress and I sat by her as she made gorgeous outfits and blankets and anything she damn-well wanted to make. One would think I'd inherited her mad sewing skillz. Nope.

But I keep trying. And I've added this project to my list: pinwheel quilted coasters. Ellen over at The Long Thread makes it look too easy. But having made a quilt once, I know all too well that near-perfection is required when measuring and cutting those fabric blocks. Maybe she'll cut a sister a break and toss some up on an etsy shop.
See instructions here.

Handmade wooden coasters: A gift for yourself and your hostess
Coasters, much like toothbrush holders, are the sort of thing you don't think about until you really need one, and then when you start shopping around, you realize how many totally uninspiring, even cheesy, options are out there. I love this handmade set of polished wood discs. They're so elegant and simple, and they'd go well with any decor, whether it's warm and earthy (Persian rugs, brass fixtures, lots of candles) or more Zen-minimalist (slick concrete floors, bare white walls, Noguchi lamps ... you get the picture).

DIY Felt Coasters
I have to work hard to remind myself that successful crafts, recipes,
and lives do not depend on an ascending scale of bigger and better.
Sometimes you cook a souffle that rises higher than Conan O'Brien's pompadour
and sometimes you impress the entire neighborhood with the abundance... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (5) | Blog
