The battle of the Davids is over and David Cook is the new American Idol for 2008.
This year American Idol wasn't without it's drama and hype. I have watched American Idol every season and I have to say I truly enjoyed this year better than some in the past. Maybe it was because of the fact that I really liked all of the singers and appreciated their talents.
This idol season there was no major singer that I truly wanted voted off. I liked them all. Yes, I admit Jason Castro was not one of my favorites but he was a likeable person and had a unique way about him.
In the past some of the idol shows have left me bored or not with a favorite. This season I had more than one favorite. I started out as a David Archuleta and Brooke White fan and as the shows past David Cook grew more and more as one of my top 2.
As a country music fan this rocker captured my interest with his unique style and abiltiy to sing just about any song well. When he sang Billie Jean, Hello, and the Roberta Flack song that Simon picked out for him was just enough to show how much talent he has.
David Archuleta's style was more soft and mellow but he always sang well and seem to be a geniously nice person.
As for the hype of who was going to win I really believed that David Cook had what it takes to be a winner but David A was truly a great contender. The finale left me wanted to hear more of both singers.
On the last show where they presented David Cook with the title I actually watched all two hours of the program including the commercials. By the way did you see David Archuleta in the Guitar Hero commercial spoofing Tom Cruise's performance in Risky Business?
For once I wanted to see all of the finalists sing and I was not disappointed.
Yes, a few of them looked a little uncomfortable trying to dance around the stage but it's and entertainment show and you do what the producers ask of you within reason. There were funny parts and interesting guests. The spoof with Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. singing as the pips behind Gladys Knight was a nice comedic break placed in the middle of the show. Bryan Adams, George Michael, Seal, and Donna Summer gave star studded performances as well.
One of my favorite guest performers was Carrie Underwood. She shows us what a true American Idol sucsess story is. My only question is while Paula gets up and dances for every performer and even cries over some I watched her as Carrie took the stage and she sat their motionless giving me the opinion that she is not a big Carrie fan. I guess we all have our opinions.
As the season has ended we will now watch the two Davids make their way on to the talk show circuit until they show up with their new CD's and appear on next years idol program. No matter what I am sure we will be watching both of their careers for years to come. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (0) | Blog

It was the unkindest cut of all. “And the winner is…. David….” For millions of TiVo and DVR subscribers who relied on the digital recording services to watch who won America ’s #1 television show on their own time, the answer never came. While the fact that “David” would win was the... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (1) | Blog

The finale of American Idol was a lot better than I expected. But, oh dear, the introduction was crazy cheesy. The boxing analogy—couldn’t they think of something more original? I would have preferred a young Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader skit, or perhaps Wiley Coyote vs the Roadrunner. After all the pomp and circumstance of the intro, and putting both of the David's in silly boxing outfits, it was on with the show!

Round One
Looks like David Cook decided to grow out some manly facial hair for the final showdown. Legendary music producer Clive Davis handpicked the U2 classic, “Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” which was a good fit for David C. He sounded pretty good, using some suave microphone stand maneuvering, and inciting some crowd participation. Some unfortunate elements though: his mega pointy boots and that ridiculous looking star necklace. Bono wouldn’t be caught dead in that!
OH MAN. David Archuleta gone done and BROUGHT IT. Singing “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” was a genius song choice by Clive. I have never seen Archuleta bring so much emotion and showmanship to his performance. Brilliant! And oh! The tears in his eye after he finished, while he was listening to the judges glowing critiques: he probably won over every grandma in America with that. “The sun is never going to go down on you,” Paula said. She’s right, David—never! Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (55) | Blog

Ok. Let's face it. The producers favor Cook...and for damn good reason. The judges had nothing shy of absolute dreck for all the other contestants. When the time came to pick a favorite Idol (pick a song for an Idol of their choice) America's favorite sassy brit (oh, come on you LOVE to hate... Read More »

For those of you who didn't see The David Cook Show tonight, err, I mean, American Idol, you missed a real treat. Cookie hit one out of the ballpark again, with his rendition of Neil Diamond's "All I Really Need is You." What he did with this song, which has great lyrics but... Read More »

I have no other outlet for venting my frustration and aggravation to the world today, so I am using my Yahoo blog. If you're already a David Cook fan, you probably have heard that he put out a solo album in 2006, and sold it via CDbaby and other independent outlets. It is common for a...
