I'm a decorative artist who sometimes exhibits hand painted furniture and decor at Texas outdoor festivals. It takes major sunscreen protection to help me weather a weekend of double-digit temps, full sunshine. I wear a hat, still, the sun bounces right off the pavement searing my face. It's awful! I'm moving into a new apartment in three weeks, when I get married. My fiance is living in the apartment now. At the present time, most of his stuff is still in boxes (he just moved in two weeks ago). I'm occasionally moving some of my things over, but not too much.
As we combine all of our belongings, I find we are running out of space. I've still got lots of editing of my belongings to do, but we don't have much in the way of storage for all our things we don't use very often. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (9) | Blog

I've been redesigning luggage and trunks for a long time; but leave it to a 14-year-old Charlotte Christian School student to think of turning old suitcases into special gifts for area foster children. She realized there was a need not being met for foster kiddos - something to carry their belongings in ( besides an old pasteboard box) , something of their own, something, personal, that spoke to who they are. Here's an example of a trunk re-do I did for a storage solution ; but, first, watch this video below for terrific ideas. Then keep reading for instructions to create your own Love Luggage.

There's a movement afoot - Depression Marketing. In this movement, Black Tuesday is the new pink and everything from fashion, books and insurance is promoted as Depression Era style. Can you get into this trend? Personally, I think we should see the market their callous movement and raise them one. Instead of spending outrageous sums of money on items intended to tastefully mock those less fortunate, why not quietly show some real taste and Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (5) | Blog

I was over getting my Marie Claire fix, and happened to read the latest blog post of Maura Kelly, who I suspect has "been kissed" but claims to never have been in love - YET! - but she's working on it. She was on a rant, that I could appreciate, about some celebrities she had been told she looked like - and really - she wasn't sure it was flattering to be compared with these folks. I understood and thought about all of the similar "compliments" I had received. Automatically, though, my mind switched tracks to what celebrities, if any, I would like to look like. It's not as easy as I thought to nail down someone I really would be happy to change looks with - have you tried it? While you think about it, here's my picks and the reasons why...
First place winner would be Lena Horne. I think she was supposed to be 91 years old in this photo. Good bones, good genes - I guess - to age that well. Maybe, just maybe, diet, nutrition, exercise has something to do with it. You know, "fitness". But, who wouldn't be happy to look just like her; at any age? Next.. Oh-my-oh-my-oh-my. Now this gives CYA new meaning! Do you remember Grandma's dresser scarves, the frilly, hand embroidered soft linen scarves she draped on everything including the back of the sofa where your head rested? Today the vintage scarves are coveted for everything from romantic decor to - ahem - sexy-but-sweet loincloths.
Bottom line: If you've got the nerve to swipe grandma's scarf, you've probably got the nerve to wear a loincloth. Forget hair, makeup, clothes, and shoes - all you need is an old dresser scarf and a ribbon; and well, maybe a halter top. Here's where you find these vintage home decor items and here's how you turn them into a very romantic fashion statement. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (6) | Blog
