It's time to make my annual retirement fund contribution. Since I am self-employed, I put my contributions into a vehicle called a single K -- which is like a 401k for an individual. As far as I can tell, the main difference between the two k plans is that with the 401k, you get some guidance and some guidelines from the plan administrator, narrowing the choices from complicated to confusing. When you are self-employed with a single k, the ways to screw up your investments are virtually limitless. I have to pick my own investments entirely by myself. Mutual funds? Index funds? Bonds or bond funds? ETFs? Every available option is a chance for me to get it all wrong.
