The first lady looks good all by herself. Why do writers keep trying to compare her with previous first ladys. Wheather she dresses up or down, she has the right to have her own style, all by herself. When she dresses highfasion you say she is too highfashion. When she dresses casual you say she is… Read More »

Earlier this year, Michelle Obama developed a fashion trademark--wearing a belt. While this sounds fairly normal over a blouse or dress, the first lady often chose to cinch her cardigans and jackets, wearing the belt high on her waist over the garments. Sometimes the resulting outfits were… Read More »

When Glamour set out to name the magazine's 12 Women of the Year for 2009, there was one woman who made the editors' difficult job just a little easier: Michelle Obama. She is the first first lady to appear on Glamour's cover in its 70-year history, and she is out front not because of her instantaneous rise as an American style icon, but for the remarkable way she is making mentoring young women a priority at the White House. We loved reading Oprah Winfrey’s tribute to Michelle Obama in “The Time 100,” from Time magazine’s issue about the world’s most influential people. But we love it now even more hearing the heart-wrenching story of how her piece came to fruition. It’s not what you think.

"I was doing it on a BlackBerry," Oprah confessed. "I'd been saving little notes on my BlackBerry. You know, I'd think of something and I'd put it on BlackBerry in the memo section. And then I went to hit the wrong button and the whole thing deleted! I went to hit 'Save' and instead I hit ... 'Oh my God! Oh my God! It's gone!' That ever happened to you? Last night, first lady
Michelle Obama was sporting a new look at the Time 100 gala in New
York. Wearing a black dress, multiple strands of long beads and a
severe side part, Michelle looked both elegant and modern. And dare
we say, a lot like Rihanna. Are we the only ones who noticed a

When I hear Michelle Obama share her goals for Barack’s term in the White House -- such as creating an “Obama China pattern” -- I wonder what Maria Shriver’s advice for her would be. Shriver was in a similar position -- standing by her man when he entered politics -- and if she could do it again, she would do things differently!
Here’s what Shriver says about fitting in to other people’s expectations:
“As long as I was trying to anticipate what people wanted from me, as long as I was trying to fulfill other people’s expectations, I was in a losing game,” said Shriver. “That’s what I want to focus on…letting go of other people’s expectations of you so you can own your own life, write your own story and live your own legacy.” (From her speech in 2007 at the Annual Woman’s Conference in California)
Maria Shriver gave up her career as a highly respected journalist to support Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor...and she’s honest about how she lost herself in that role. If Shriver gave Michelle Obama advice, what would she say?
