A couple of months ago we here at Shine Fashion+Beauty held a contest. We were looking for a handful of smart, interesting, talented women to write about a topic that's not always so smart and interesting. We wanted Beauty Gurus, ladies who were real-life knowledgeable about cosmetics and hair issues and skincare and could give all of us solid, honest practical advice.
We announced the winners on July 10th and, since then, these new bloggers have completed their first assignment.
It's on one of my favorite topics... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (15) | Blog

I don't have the kind of hair that just lays like it is suppose to and looks pretty without much attention, and in the summer my long, brown, slightly wavy in spots hair goes berserk. I struggle with the little, curly wisps that frizz up as soon as I move away…

Hairs are strange. They rarely do
what you want them to do, when you want them to do it. I want
my hair to go to a meeting. It wants to go to a rave. I
want my hair to be sleek and smooth. It wants to be curly and
crazy. If hair does answer to a higher power, that… Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (12) | Blog

Cutting curly hair is nothing like cutting straight hair — curly hair needs a lot of shape or it can take on a triangular shape. Here, some tips before you make your next salon appointment:
•Have your stylist cut your hair when it is dry — curly hair is different when it’s wet versus when it’s dry. Once dry, curly hair expands and gets shorter.
•Go for layers: Layers can eliminate bulk in curly hair. Avoid blunt cuts, which only make your curls expand more (not pretty on a hot, humid day!).

Ok my hair is a big puffball if I do absolutely nothing to it. Even when I do scrunch dry to tame my fluff in to some-what waves, one side hangs down WAY straighter than the other side! Oh and my hair is a little past shoulder length and it's a dark chocolate color. It's REALLY thick and… Read More »

As a longtime fan of a long,
blunt fringe, I have come to understand that during the summer
months my bangs will bear little resemblance to their
winter-weather counterparts. But the concept of grease and
frizz-free bangs at the height of summer’s humid onslaught is not
an impossible dream,… Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (2) | Blog

It was rainy, muggy, humid and just plain nasty
outside. My hair does not react very well to such conditions and I
had plans after work...what do you do? Go with frizzed out bangs or
try to remedy the situation? I decided it's probably best to
try to figure this mess out, so I ran into CVS… Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (20) | Blog
