There’s so much not to like about Sarah Palin … why do I find myself admiring her?
- April Daniels Hussar, BettyConfidential.com
Like many people outside of Alaska, the first I heard of Sarah Palin was back in August 2008, when John McCain announced her as his running mate. My first reaction: Smooth move, John. We wanted a woman in the Oval Office, now you might be giving us one. My second reaction: How sexist and condescending can you get. We can’t have Hillary, so any old female will do? And my third: Dear Lord, please don’t let this woman end up in the White House. So here’s my confession: I was – and still am – an ardent Obama supporter. Politically speaking I’d say Sarah Palin and I are just about polar opposites. (You say, “Drill baby;” I say, “No blood for oil.”) I shudder to imagine her holding a national political office. But, the thing is, well … see, it’s like this … I kind of like her too.

It's a big week for Sarah Palin.
Four months after her early departure as Alaska's governor, a year after the end of her vice presidential bid as John McCain's running mate for the White House, and six months after signing a book deal with Harper Collins, Palin's book is out. She appeared on Oprah to kick off her book tour, and sales were brisk before she sat in Oprah's coveted chair. "Going Rogue: An American Life" is on the bestseller lists at Barnes and Noble and Amazon, which is selling the $29 book for $9 to compete with Wal-Mart's bottom-price bestseller deals. (No wonder advance sales are doing so well!)
Book reviewers and the AP have gotten advance copies of the book, so as we wait to dive into the 432-page, no-index read ourselves, let's take a look at some of the early reviews: Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (240) | Blog

Palin mania is officially upon us!
-Carolyn French, BettyConfidential.com
On Thursday HarperCollins released the cover image of Sarah Palin’s new memoir, Going Rogue.
The jacket features the former Alaska governor in an outdoor setting, sporting a red fleece top complete with an American flag pin.
Palin’s book is doing exceptionally well, and has even managed to climb to the top of the charts at both Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble, despite the fact that it isn’t due out for another month and a half.

Because wonders never cease, yesterday, the New York Post reported that Sarah Palin's agents are "seeking a beauty endorsement deal and pitching cosmetic companies to capitalize on her 'lipstick on a pit bull' catchphrase."
Assuming this news is true, let's consider what it means. Sarah Palin is a major figure on the national political scene and--whether you like the idea or not-- a serious contender for the 2012 Republican nomination. By entering the celebrity makeup racket, she'd be relegating herself to a space usually reserved for... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (109) | Blog

Well, this isn't going so well.
Despite the supposed $7 million advance for her forthcoming memoir, Sarah Palin seems to be striking out on the lecture circuit. According to the New York Post, though Palin signed with the Washington Speakers Bureau (an A-list service which represents speakers as varied as George Bush and Dodgers' manager Joe Torre), she just isn't getting booked.
