It's a scary yet strangely hopeful world when some of the best reporting is being done by a comedy show. After taking jabs at each other on separate shows for the past week, Jim Cramer, the host of CNBC's "Mad Money" sat down with Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show" last night for a "Brawl Street" showdown.

There's a lot of finger pointing going on over the economic crisis right now, about who should have known what and exposed what so this big house of cards didn't rise so many stories before it came crashing down. But what's terrific about Stewart's head-to-head with Cramer is he makes it plain that it's ridiculous for financial news TV networks to treat financial news like entertainment. It is ethically dubious at best--especially when invidual, small investors' retirement savings, education accounts, and future security is tied up in what seems now to be a high-stakes game. A game played out to disastrous results by Wall Street's elite, many of whom drew big, big bonuses on short-term gains that led to a painful economic meltdown.
