As far back as we can remember, there haven't been any good or even moderately OK tampon commercials. Whether it's the red dot rolling around your screen or the "pearl girl" jingle, they've all been stupid and borderline irritating. When it comes to marketing tampons, it's almost a dying battle. No one wants to buy them, but you need them. Do you really have a strong opinion on brands? Read More »

It's a night I will always remember. I was out with some friends when suddenly, I had unbearable pelvic pain – it was so horrible, I was doubled over. I thought I was just having extreme cramps. I soon learned I had severe endometriosis. Nearly 20 years and five surgeries later, I still suffer from this relentless and debilitating disease.

I realized something this morning.
Getting your period every month is the greatest thing ever (well at
least when you're sexually active). It's a free and

What if I told you that each

piggy bank and save yourself $100 a year? And that you could avoid
exposure to polyethylene, chlorine and pesticide residue—plus save… Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (8) | Blog

Did you know your period is a magical
ability? Check this out: “In man, the shedding of blood is always
associated with injury, disease, or death,” said Estelle Ramey, who
was a Georgetown University endocrinologist. “Only the female half
of humanity was seen to have the magical ability to… Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (2) | Blog

The day after getting off my period I had sex with my boyfriend and the condom busted. The next day i had light pink spotting when i wiped myself after urinating. Dear Dr. Kate,
After I started having sex with my boyfriend, my first period afterwards was incredibly light, just one day of spotting. The next month, however, my period was much heavier, 4 days worth of tampons (light ones) accompanied by body aches, cramps and nausea the likes of which I've never experienced. My usual period requires 1 day of light tampons, then pantyliners for the final 3 days. I assumed it was from stress, but someone mentioned the possibility of a miscarriage, which scares me because I'm on the pill plus we used a condom every time. You know that dreaded moment when you are sitting in your gynecologist's office? No, not stepping on the scale. Not stripping down to your socks and the ill-fitting gown, and not the shiver of the inevitably frigid speculum.
You know the moment I mean -- the one when the just-nice-enough nurse asks you to tell her the first day of your last period.
