Like most pros in her field, Nurse Jackie spends more time at work than at home. The idea of glamming up her sterile New York City ER and the dingy waiting lounge may seem like one of her drug-induced fantasies, but Matthew Berman, Andrew Kotchen, Christopher Coleman and Angel Sanchez have made it a beautiful reality. With their designs, Jackie can now retreat to a room where happy pills pour from the ceiling and couture linens swaddle her while she sleeps. As early as the 17th century, ke-tsiap, a spicy condiment made from pickled fish, was popular in China. British seamen took the idea home, but they made their version with salted mushrooms. It wasn’t until the concept traveled across the sea again, to New England, that tomatoes were added, resulting in what became a classic American condiment.
