Redecorator Marcia Lerner, owner of ReDesign Works (www.redesignworks.net), in New York City, discovered why: Rossman and her daughter, Reade, 10, "hardly used the living room," says Lerner. "They would just gather at the dining-room table." The problem was, "having the living room in the center of the space meant it was a walk-through, not a cozy destination itself," Lerner says.
