One of my favorite women in history
and
one
of Time's 100 most important people of
the last centuryis
Margaret
Sanger. She was a crusader for reproductive freedom
and fought to educate and empower women about conception and
contraception, and then to make birth control accessible to
everyone. Among her many activist endeavors, Margaret Sanger
founded the organization that eventually became Planned Parenthood
Federation of America. She also wrote and spoke many words that
could rally easily rally a new generation of women fight for their
own sexual health rights.

April Bloomfield is
Shine's food woman of the year, but why? Because she's the
no b.s., super talented lady responsible for making the gastropub
(English pub food) movement accessible, and remarkably edible in
the US. She also makes us feel very cool. How does she do it? Well,
for one, she opened The Spotted Pig, one of the most remarkably
unique restaurants of the century and secondly, we now get to
casually mention that we had some grilled beef tongue with duck fat
potatoes the other night, and it was good. Pretty cool, right? We
agree.
