Holy animal prints! Rogan designs for Target
I have a lot of respect for American designer Rogan Gregory. He's been a pioneer in the socially and eco-conscious fashion movement, helmed several nice-looking, earth-friendly lines (Edun, Loomstate, his own label, Rogan) and all around puts out really great stuff. So I was excited to hear he'd take on a collection for Target (for its GO International line) and that he'd use certified organic cotton throughout. But that was until I saw the clothes.
It's not that they're bad, really. It's more that they're not good. Perhaps it's my prejudice against animal prints (which I only think one should wear sparingly and even then only if the piece is really special—like some glamorous leopard print coats).
Thing is, this collection is supposed to have a safari theme. Which is great. I guess I just don't understand why every animal you might see on the safari needs to be represented.(I'm not kidding—among the 60 pieces are giraffe, leopard, tiger and zebra patterns).
But let's not focus on the negative. This array of skirts, dresses, tops and jeans is still well-made, well-priced and good for the planet. And there are some cute things. After the jump, my picks.

How to pull off multiple prints without looking insane
There are a few schools of thought about mixing prints. One advocates throwing them together wily-nily and strutting around, aloof, with a calculated bed head and expertly smudged dark eyeliner. I will ignore this strategy because, for better or worse, I’m just not that cool. For us real people... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (2) | Blog

Walk-In Closet: Photos From a (very successful) H&M shopping spree
Okay, so i promised this a week ago, but please forgive. To refresh, I'd given my little sis Amanda my list of spring must-haves (the wide-leg jean, something yellow, short shorts, slouchy trouser) and armed with said list, she assaulted the racks at H&M and came home with this amazing... $11 for slick shoes you can wear to work? Oh, YES!
I'm not sayin' these Payless Mary Janes will last you for the rest of your life (they might not even last until November), but seriously, would they not look incredible with a little black shirtdress to work this summer? Or how about peeking out from straight-legged jeans with a vibrant, flowy top? I love them and they are just 11 bucks and that is... Read More »

Walk-In Closet: Stump the Fashion Director
Unlike normal people, I have fall clothing on the brain right now, even though its only the middle of April. So the other day when my sister Amanda, who is totally normal, asked me to give her a list of the four things she absolutely must have for spring, I was all, Huh? Spring? I have no idea!... Everything we want: Target's new stylish, inexpensive GO International line
There are so many well-cut, fashion-forward pieces in the new Target GO International collection that I hardly know which to pick. Unlike its recent designer lines, all of the clothes in this label have been created by people inside Target—which I think might actually make them better and less gimmicky. You can choose from neat little shift dresses (wear them to work during the warm weather with a cardigan and heeled sandals), short-sleeved ruffled blouses (good tucked in with higher waisted jeans and a skinny belt) and tank tops with gathered details that make them flattering and not boring. All of it is summery and well-priced—not one item is more than $50. Check it out at your local Target, or online here.

What's on sale: Living the J.Crew dream
It's funny. There will always been a small stupid part of me that wants to live in the J.Crew catalog. That wants to play touch football with my boyfriend who's wearing a barn jacket on a soft fall afternoon. Who'd like to be one of the knock-kneed girls in a-line corduroy skirts wearing some kind of stylish-in-an-unfeminine way flat shoes, a bright scarf around my neck and laughing with my full mouth of white American orthodontics' teeth. Obviously this can't happen, but instead I can buy some of its cute preppy clothes, some of which are right now on sale.[J.Crew Spring Sale]
Striped Kelly jacket, was $138, now $79.99

Challenge! Find a going out top that'll fit big boobs
A reader wrote in last week asking my advice about what she should wear for going out on spring nights. She's a size 8 bottom and a size 12 top and she wanted to know about slightly dressed up jeans-and-shirt combinations that would flatter her body. She's also in her 40s, so needed items that weren't too ridiculously "young" looking. The jeans were easy. Over the years, I've figured out how to find good jeans. But man, this whole big boobs and tops thing is one of the hardest things I've ever had to hunt down. Read More »
I know the woman in this photo is flat-chested, but boobs would look nice in this top too. You might want to wear a camisole underneath. Oh, and it comes in black. And it's $68.

Why everyone should wear a trench coat (and four you might like)
For the past few weeks, I've been walking around the city repeating the same mantra: "Why is it so f*cking cold? It's April! I'm still wearing my winter coat! This is obscene!"
Then today, it is 70 degrees in New York. I'm not complaining (because that would be ridiculous) but I am filled with a tiny feeling of anxiety and dread. What if there's no spring at all? What if the weather skips right to summer? What if I never get to wear my spring jacket?
The thing is—and this might seem like the lamest concept some of you have ever heard of, but—last year I fell in love with a coat. Specifically a trench coat, specifically an inexpensive trench coat from... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (2) | Blog

2008 Spring Color Trend : Lilac
The moment I saw this dress I could smell the lilacs from my childhood. Thoes beautiful perfumed bundles of violet flowers were my favorite thing in our back yard. Alberta Feretti told Marcio Mederia of www.vogue.co.uk "Lilac is a romantic colour. It is sophisticated but also populist; it lets you dare without being loud; you can be noticed without being glaring" After reading these inspiring words I wanted this dress more than thoes lost summers of childhood and I was bound and determined to find it.
