Need a free vacation?
Okay, okay, so "staycations" are all the rage right now, blah, blah, blah, but that's more a product of necessity, not choice. If the idea of a good old timey style week laying on the beach still appeals to you, check this out:
So I went to the drugstore yesterday to replenish my witch hazel supply and noticed a promotional tag on the bottle titled (rather unfortunately), "Stop Stripping."

DIY Spa Staycation
The concept of the oh-so-trendy now staycation always seemed kind of dreamy to me, since how often do you get to spend an entire vacation enjoying the comforts of home? Yes, I love to travel, and have been many amazing places, but after countless delays, strained muscles and crazy scary flight attendants, the staycation appeals.

Need a break on a budget? 4 "staycations" to stay healthy while staying close to home
I had a few precious moments alone in the car yesterday and while I sat at a red light, I used them to think about whether I could make a road trip with my 3-year old son a reality this summer. I have a fantasy of piling sand toys, swimsuits and a giant bag of snacks in the car and taking off for a long weekend somewhere out of laptop and BlackBerry and IM reach.
That is, I had that fantasy until the light turned green and I pulled into the gas station. There, hanging above my delusions of vacation grandeur was a sign that said $4.69 a gallon. Next to me and my hopes of road-tripping with my boy was a the fuel pump ringing up almost sixty dollars to fill up my car. My vacation budget felt busted long before I even emptied fishy crackers and dried fruit into Ziploc bags.
There are many families like ours, I am sure, who are itchy to get out of their towns and packed-tight daily schedules this summer but who also are feeling the burn of increasing gas, airfare and food prices. How can we all take a healthful step back, get the break we need and not deplete our savings to do it?
Maybe the answer is in planning mini "staycations" by exploring your own city with the same enthusiasm of a vacation to the Caribbean or Grand Canyon. Maybe we can keep costs low, the activity level high and feel refreshed on the other side of weekend away, just at home. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (0) | Blog

New words seem to pop up overnight these days, but here's one that is resonating with lots of us this summer of the $4-plus gallon of gas: staycation. Lylah Alphonse writes about how her family has been ahead of the staycation curve, but more families will be looking to chill closer to home this summer. Half of U.S. travelers say high fuel prices will affect their travel plans this summer, but 52 percent say they will take half of their annual vacation during the summer, according to a TripAdvisor survey.

Not to worry. There are lots of things to do close to most of our homes that can turn staying home into a great vacation. "Anyplace can be a vacation destination," says Pauline Frommer in this CNN segment. In the U.S., many of us are within two or three hours of some wonderful tourist destinations. Often less. So if you're planning a staycation this summer, start with these ideas: Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (1) | Blog

Staycation, all I ever wanted...
With gas prices skyrocketing and airlines imposing new and bigger fees for everything from checked baggage to warm soda, "home" is becoming a hot travel destination. Hotels are marketing "getaway" packages to their local clientele. AAA offers "Drive Vacations" to make road tripping trendier (even with gas costing more than $4 a gallon, it's still cheaper to drive than fly if you're taking kids along). Camping and hiking have become popular again. Read More »

Planning A Staycation
Yes, you read that right, a staycation. With high fuel prices and funds being what they are, this year we will be having a staycation. I first heard this term used on an episode of " Corner Gas " and found it hilarious. Now, I am taking it seriously. The Urban Dictionary defines it as: 1.... Read More »
