I have trouble walking smoothly on very high heeled shoes and find that I have to practice quite a bit to walk smoothly. I find that walking outside and videoing give good feed back on how well you are doing - see above.
If I can't do that watching in a mirror is helpful, but you only get a few steps and you're right up to the mirror.
