The worst Valentine's Day gifts ever

We know what you're going to say: It's the thought that counts. But, honestly, it's really not thoughtful to buy your mate a terrible gift-on Valentine's Day or ever. So, please, we beg you, significant others everywhere, don't drop your cash on any of the cutesy-bad or clueless-gross presents we've outlined above. No one wants them. Don't waste your money on this stuff! We're in a recession!

Let's just all love each other, OK?

I never even ask my boyfriend for gifts. I'm perfectly happy just spending the entire day at home with him in PJs watching movies. Last year, he got me a really pretty plant that is still alive today. This year, he's got an extra bit of cash as well as a gift card, and he's decided to take me out to dinner either the weekend before or after (not only to avoid the crowds, but because the actual day is rather inconvenient, haha).

Just don't get her a plant that needs way more sun than her apartment gets. It's depressing to see all the leaves fall off. Better to get a bunch or roses or carnations.

of course i have a friend who got his girl an instructional video for...shall we say proper "SOUTHERN KISSING"...i dated her before him so i know for a fact it wasn't a worse gift...it was needed. if he didn't tell her some guy was going to eventually...turns out i should have said it...because now she's really good at that type of "KISSING"!

"Sharp objects send negative energy"? Really? That's the best reason you can come up with to not give them as a gift? Good knives are expensive, I'd love getting them as a gift (aka-I'm not paying for them, duh). I'll take my chances with silly superstition. Nothing will sever the relationship if we don't let it.

"A night tour of Alcatraz Prison"?

cool! well I guess not the most "affectionate" gift for Valentine's day but in general I would be ecstatic about an adventure like that...

When my children were 1,2, & 3, my husband gave me a shotgun that he wanted--I had never and did never shoot it. It was worse than getting nothing!

It is the thought that counts. If the gift fits you what's the problem? No one is entitled to anything. If you expect something and your significant other doesn't get your hints, buy it yourself. You can't make someone romantic. Besides romance is over rated. Simple acts of kindness throughout the year is so much better than doing something for one day just because everyone else does it. To me that is not romantic. Movies have really made us all, mostly women, think that having a man being sensitive is a great thing. Personally, I want my man a strong, "doesn't get the fact that I'm just talking and don't need to be fixed" type of man. I have girlfriends to talk about him to.

Some people are forgetting the night tour of Alcatraz is not just wandering around some creepy prison. Most nights in SF are beautiful and it's a romantic boat ride to and from.

I'm planning on making my husband heart-shaped sugar cookies (his favorite) this year with loving phrases in frosting. Like a lot of those in the world today our funds are scarce and we try and do things that mean something without overload to our bank account. Doesn't have to mean a lot of money.

I have to agree about the footie pj's. I automatically thought warm cuddles by the fire. For those of us with kids "adult" activities ain't always happening on certain dates and this year V-day is a school night! Heck I counted myself lucky my husband didn't have to work!

Right there with you sister (I know my name says bob...I"m on my hubby's account lol). We are tight so I'm thinking of getting a special coffee he likes, make his favorite dinner, and his favorite dessert...cheese cake! Then a few hours of MW3 on the Xbox. That's about it until the kids are in bed ;-)

grow up already people! i dont expect any thing on 'vday' but i always get diamonds. i would just as soon receive a note from any worthy charity that a contribution was made in my name. my favorite charity is the a.s.p.c.a., or any animal shelter, or any food pantry for humans. how about the poor in appliacians? they need repairs to their homes, coats and warm clothing, food, and money for prescriptions.

How about donating some of those diamonds you always get to one of these charities that you're so fond of?

What's important is being thought of, the thoughts what counts in my book.

How about ten years of never going out, hardly ever getting a card and constantly reminding the other person that valentines day is coming??? That was my life, but not anymore!!!
    • lkc2cool  •  1 year 3 months ago
Our first V day when we were married, my husband had the car painted...by the insurance company. I made sure to get my husband something he REALLY wanted, plus a 'man box' of candy. We did a re-do later, but the actual v day sucked.

I would love a night trip to Alcatraz because that's the kind of person I am. I love spooky, dark, and dreary. (NOT Goth or emo by the way.) I'm actually an active Ghost Hunter so that would be RIGHT up my alley. Too bad hubby would never do anything that thoughtful. Roses and a card this year I will bet my kid's lives on it.
