MakerBot, perhaps the most well-known name in 3D printing, is looking to creep its way into the mainstream with a little help from Microsoft. At its BUILD conference, Microsoft demonstrated a 3D printer driver for Windows 8.1. Microsoft has been selling Maketbot 3D printers in Seattle and California. Now they're adding the "MakerBot Experience" in-store demonstration to 15 more Microsoft stores across the country.
It's been a long time since HP has had any good news, but at least one analyst thinks the company's plan to revive its PC business once Microsoft stops supporting Windows XP next year might be a winner. Pacific Crest analyst Bren Bracelin figures that the worst must be over for HP's PC division, which saw a 20% year-over-year drop in sales this past spring, and that the company is well-positioned to expand its market share in India and to hold onto its enterprise sales business in the coming months.
