When Emma Stydahar (17) and Carina Cruz (16) open up Teen Vogue, they don't like what they see. They believe the models are often digitally altered and don't represent reality. The two teamed up with the SPARK Movement, a girl activist group, and staged a demonstration outside Conde Nast, publisher of Teen Vogue, in New York City, petitioning the magazine to feature unaltered, and un-retouched real girls. The teens argue that Teen Vogue and others present an unrealistic notion of beauty, threatening their self-esteem and leading to depression and eating disorders.
