Is 35 too old to wear a miniskirt?

41-year-old Jennifer Lopez breaks the fashion rules. Photo by Getty Images.41-year-old Jennifer Lopez breaks the fashion rules. Photo by Getty Images. Two thousand British women were surveyed by Diet Chef on the age appropriateness of fashion, and came to some harsh conclusions. For starters they said women should stop wearing mini skirts at 35. Only 35? What would 41-year-old Jennifer Lopez have to say about this fashion rule? As the new spokesperson for Venus razors she's been showing off her gams more than ever, and they look fantastic!

To all the stiletto addicts out there: be warned! The majority of those surveyed said by 51 you're too old for high heels.

Next up on the survey: bikinis, which the majority of women said should not be worn past 47 years old. We have two words for these women: Helen Mirren. At 65 years old she still works the hell out of a two-piece swimsuit. Now maybe Mirren and J.Lo aren't your average females, but if ladies feel comfortable and happy wearing mini skirts and bikinis then why on earth should they have to succumb to these ridiculous style rules? It's like saying middle aged women can't have long hair. Says who?!

Apparently 44% of women regularly worry about being too old to wear certain things. Really? We're sure there are better things to worry about. The good news is 50% of those surveyed feel that if a women is slim, healthy, and attractive into her fifties and sixties she can "get away with anything." Now that's more like it. But really, if you have the confidence and desire to wear something that makes you feel good, then we say go for it! For more on the survey, head over to the Daily Mail, who reported on the results.

We're taking our own Shine survey to see where our readers stand. How old is too old to wear a miniskirt?

It's not about the numbers, it's about what makes you feel good about yourself when you look in the mirror. I am over 50, and I have given up on minis and bikinis because, well, I just feel silly wearing them. If a woman has the confidence and the body to carry them off, however, I say go for it. And whose idea was it that women over 50 shouldn't wear heels for heaven's sake? A pair of classic pumps looks great on a woman of any age.

I agree age should not be a hinderance as long as the mini skirt looks presentable and not trashy.

If I had Jennifer's legs, I would be wearing mini skirts all the freaking time!

I'm 34 and so tired of worrying about what to wear. I am NOT old. I am not a teenager and would never want to be again, but I am NOT old. I do not go around wearing trashy clothes but I refuse to wear a moomoo. I may be a wife and mother but damn it I'm still a woman that deserves to feel confident and sexy. I'm sorry but mom kahki's and polos just don't do the trick. I'm not saying that I walk around with cheeks hangin out of my skirts or shorts but I see nothing wrong with the right mini skirt on the right body what ever the age may be. If you a woman over the age of 35 can pull it off without looking trashy or like she's 'trying too hard' then I say go for it.

I don't think we should gauge our fashion choices by what celebrities wear. Most of us aren't walking the red carpet, performing on stage, or making a living based on how we look. This is why after a certain age, miniskirts look inappropriate on "ordinary" women and send a message that a woman is trying too hard or caught in a time warp. Where are you going to wear that miniskirt at 35-40--to a parent-teacher meeting, a sporting event, a work conference, a suburban cookout, coffee with a friend? For the most part, miniskirts are associated with young women because they're more likely to be interested in attracting male attention. When you're older, you're likely to be past the "Look-At-Me" stage and living a life that is less centered on how sexy you think you look.

I agree with this statement Posted by Un-known 14 hours ago

"Seriously, women should be appropriate. I think mini skirts at any age are indecent. You don't need the whole world to think you're attractive by looking at your legs. It's not an age issue."

Ladies Just because your "Hot" does not mean ya have to show everything, What ever happen to leaving somethings to the imagination? I will not even let my 9 yr old where something that short, and there is nothing wrong with her body.

If I had legs like Jennifer Lopez or Jennifer Anniston, I'd be wearing mini-skirts even though I'm 41. They worked hard for those bodies so I can't blame them for showing off. As long as you've still got the body for it and feel comfortable, then why the hell not wear it.

The deciding factor should be what shape she's in, not her age. I've seen 60 year old women that look incredible wearing a mini skirt. I've also seen 25 year old girls with thunder thighs and a muffin top that make me gag.

So mini skirts are fine, but short shorts are not?
  • Anonymous  •  1 year 0 months ago
Um, excuse me LBC, but there should be age limits. When you see pathetic women who are clearly well above 60, with wrinkles and live spots and whatnot shopping at Forever 21, you KNOW there needs to limits.
