Classic equestrian style is made for fall. The comfortable, easy to wear separates will have you looking your fashionable best without having to wonder if your investments will last more than a single season. The fact is some of the basic equestrian items may already be hanging in your closet. All you need to do is add a few key accessories and you will be ready for a stylish season. The following guidelines will help you pull together some very wearable, elegant equestrian looks.
Jeans: Skinny jeans are functional for this style. They are the perfect backdrop for the equestrian must-have: riding boots. Look for dark wash blue jeans that fit well. 7 for All Mankind Nouveau skinny jeans have simple lines and come in a variety of washes.
Boots: Cowgirl boots may not be for everyone, but flat equestrian boots are a fantastic addition to your wardrobe. Not only do they work well over skinny jeans, they look amazing with tights. If you want authentic riding boots, then Frye Harness Dorado Boots are the only ones for you. This company knows their boots. On the other hand, if your budget takes precedence, then these Restricted Derby Riding boots will do the trick for a fraction of the price.
Tops: After getting the jeans and boot situation handled, the question is what do you wear on top? Classic pieces like a button down oxford and cable sweater work just fine, but if you are like me and need something a little less preppy then consider a ruffled plaid blouse. This Ralph Lauren Plaid Tunic with the ruffled scoop neckline maintains the classic equestrian air without being constrictive. A t-shirt along with this Gibson Equestrian blazer will also do the trick.
Belt: Leather is clearly a part of the equestrian trend. A simple leather belt with a decent size buckle can complete an outfit. Slip it on over a blouse or sweater, or use it to cinch a cute corduroy dress.
Dress: Aside from a corduroy dress for the equestrian look, you can wear a girly, lightweight shirt dress with a cardigan, tights and your riding boots. The nice thing about a simple equestrian style shirt dress is that you can layer it, belt it, or wear it over skinny jeans to continually alter the look and add much needed warmth this fall.
Jewelry: Anything with leather works well. Look for a leather cuff bracelet, corded necklace and then accent with warm copper earrings. Adding warm gold or pieces with stones or other natural material creates the same earthy feel.
Overall the equestrian vibe is girly, but has gritty attitude. So walk tall and proud in your equestrian attire.
