I am just as guilty as the next person about putting off my haircuts. As a hairstylist, I should know better. But I get busy, in a hurry, or sometimes I just can't make up my mind about what I want do with my hair next. So I do nothing, even though I know my ends are getting shabby and my style is getting ragged. But there are some really good reasons to visit your stylist on a regular basis, about every four weeks.
It keeps split ends at bay. Regular trims keep the ends of your hair in tip-top shape, which means no split ends. Your hair will look healthier and style more easily.
It's easier to maintain your style and keep the look you love. If you love your current style, getting frequent trims will keep it just so. If you wait too long between trims, the style starts to grow out and may be hard for your stylist to replicate.
Your stylist can spy - and treat- damage before it gets to the point of no return. Coloring and heat styling your hair can cause damage over time, but your stylist can catch it early if you visit frequently. Your stylist can recommend and provide treatments and styling tips to prevent and even correct further damage so you don't have to get it all cut off.
Your stylist will be able to get to know you - and your sense of style - better. The better your stylist knows you, the better he or she can help you have the hair you want. Your stylist will get to know your styling abilities, likes, dislikes, and how adventurous (or not) you are when it comes to trying something new.
You'll be able to stay more current on hair trends. You'll be able to keep your hair up to date with small, regular tweaks, or go for something altogether new. Or you can just stick with what you love.
You'll be privy to the latest and greatest hair products - much sooner than everyone else who puts off their haircuts! Salons frequently get new products, and it's always fun to be the one that gets to try something new.
Your stylist can help you spot problems. Did you know that one of the most common places for skin cancer is the scalp? And yet, we don't ever see our own scalps to know if there is anything different or bad up there. If you visit your salon regularly, and keep open communication with your stylist, he or she will know what is normal for you and what is not - giving better odds that one of you will spot anything that needs to be checked by a doctor.
Of course, the number one reason to visit your stylist often is to relax! So make an appointment, come in to get your style refreshed, your hair styled beautifully, and relax.
