Whether you're going out or celebrating at home, these tips will help you really live it up!

    1. Deck out your pad. Add glitz with festive mini disco balls from CB2.

    3. Amp up the drama. New Year's is one of those times when you can really go all out, so kick up your outfit a notch. Most women will probably be in jeans and a cute top. Stand out by wearing a dress instead. Looks that are hot right now: a knit mini dress plus tall flat boots, a frock with ruffles around the hem or neckline, a deep purple dress.

    4. Be dazzling. Glitter is making a comeback for the holidays. The key to pulling it off without looking like a 12-year-old: Choose a sparkly eyeliner in a metallic neutral (gold, silver, pearlescent), and be lighthanded when you apply it. It should only be noticeable when you blink or it catches the light. Another option: Try a sparkly headband or hairpins.

    5. Sip a champagne cocktail. Try this recipe from The Bubble Lounge in New York and San Francisco:

    Ginger Sizzle

    • Thinly slice a piece of fresh ginger, and then chop the slivers into tiny pieces the size of confetti.
    • Put a pinch of the ginger into a glass, and slowly pour champagne over them.
    • The bubbles will latch onto the bits of ginger, and cause them to circulate up and down throughout the glass, sort of like a lava lamp.

    6. Stay in the loop. TwitPic lets you post images on your twitter stream. Snap shots of the New Year's festivities so that pals who are celebrating elsewhere know what you're up to.

    7. Have a luxe feast for less. Lobster prices are the cheapest they've been in 25 years. If you want a low-key night that still feels fancy and festive, have a few friends over for dinner featuring the scrumptious crustacean.

    8. Serve a seductive dessert. Chocolate fondue is fun to serve if you're having a party. Because it's interactive, it promotes mingling among guests. Melt dark chocolate bars in a fondue pot, and drizzle in heavy cream. Ask each guest to bring a designated dipping snack (pineapple chunks, strawberries, marshmallows, bananas, pound cake, biscotti).

    9. Kiss sexier. New Year's Eve kisses have the potential to be incredibly hot because there's so much anticipation (when else do you have a countdown before locking lips?). To build even more excitement during those 10 seconds, hold his hand (give it an occasional squeeze), or wrap your arm around his waist and pull him closer to you. When the ball drops, catch his eye for a second before smooching. "As you kiss, lightly rake your fingers through the hair at the nape of his neck," suggests Belisa Vranich, PsyD, psychologist in New York.

    10. Get gutsy. If you're not coupled up, pick out a hot single guy earlier in the evening, and be sure to stand near him when the ball drops. Then turn to him, make eye contact, and smile. If you're getting a positive vibe from him, go in for the kiss. "You can be bolder than usual on New Year's Eve," Vranich says. "Everyone is kissing everyone else, and people are excited." So take advantage of this all-bets-are-off attitude to make your move.
