5 Wedding Makeup Tips from a Pro

Remember how serious you took your makeup and deodorant picks when you were headed to your high-school prom? Beauty regimens for weddings should be as serious, especially now that Aunt Joann has Facebook and knows how to tag photos. So whether you're the bride or a guest, here are five tricks to making your face look flawless from celebrity makeup artist Bruce Grayson. Grayson was the head MUA for the 2010 Oscars, so he knows a thing or two about skin-perfecting touch-ups.

    1. Complexion: Get your skin looking flawless weeks before the big event by doing the following: Drink a lot of water, avoid salty foods, reduce caffeine. You can also look into hard-working skin-care kits like Philosophy Miracle Worker.

    2. Foundation: It's tempting to use a full-coverage foundation and lots of powder, but the combo will only make your skin look cakey and dull. A better option is to use a sheer, buildable base and a cream blush.

    3. Teary Eyes: Olay Regenerist Anti-Aging Eye Roller is a must-have for reducing puffiness after a teary-eyed speech. If you're the type who cries at weddings, stash this easy-to-tote pen in your purse for a quickie post-ceremony touch-up. Bonus: It also minimizes fine lines.

    4. Avoid an Oil-Slick: It's inevitable that your complexion will start to cross the line from glowy to greasy, especially if you're working a crowded room or hitting the dance floor. But reaching for your powder compact is a bad idea, says Grayson. He advises to carry blotting papers like Clean & Clear's to remove excess oil but keep your skin glowing.

    5. Lip Service Trick: Whether you're working a bold red, bright pink, or soft coral lip color, top it off with a clear gloss (bonus points if it has flecks of gold shimmer). "Not only will your lips feel more hydrated, but they'll reflect the light and appear fuller," says Grayson. A good one: MAC Clear Lipglass.
